Re: The UK in 4E is still a bit... problematic

Yup. Only had time for a quick glance but (being British) I did take a look at what they did to the UK, and my immediate thoughts were: Why do the Soviets invade? (Other than to provide gaming opportunities, obviously). If the UK's effectively wrecked, that's a long way for the Soviets to go and a l...

Re: The Battlefield

I would think that even with rising tensions in Europe, the US would intervene to liberate Kuwait. However, the first point is, are tensions rising? This comes down to the 'alternate history' background selected. If Soviet hardliners don't act until 1990, Desert Storm has already happened; if the ha...

Re: The Battlefield

Omnipus, Re- Gulf War My assumption is that the war still occurs, and in fact could be an important element in the build-up to the Twilight war. The Iraqi claim on Kuwait didn't come out of nowhere - they previously tried to invade in the 1960's, but the British (as the then 'outside power of note')...

Re: Who is Twilight: 2000 4e for?

A few fairly dis-jointed thoughts. When I first started playing RPGs, i wasn't playing RPGs, I was playing D&D. (And it really was the first RPG I played). Even when I was playing other RPGs (Traveller, CoC), to non-gamers I was playing D&D (because people had heard of it), Attributing D&...

Re: Who is Twilight: 2000 4e for?

Another oldie here (Wait, hang on, I'm not old, I'm only...Oh...Oh dear....) Played (refereed) 1st Ed and then a mish-mash of 1st Ed with bits of 2nd ed and some additional house rules (and also played some 2300AD, since someone else mentioned that game). I've assumed the KS was mostly old T2:k play...

Re: Vehicles, kit , etc

Arrigo74, I think Sgt York was abandoned in part because it couldn't actually hit the target (as well as because it was slow, on account of using old M48 hulls to save money). However that said, I think that the Sgt York system is a more realistic 'what-if' than a lot of what GDW proposed in 1st/2nd...

Re: Abstraction level

Boggit, I'm firmly in agreement with you on this - I see no difficulty (or much effort) in tracking actual use of food, fuel, ammo, etc, and to me, think it is very much part of the game: resource management in a make-do-and-mend world. Moreover, using some form of 'resource die' to track usage wher...

Re: Vehicles, kit , etc

At the risk of getting slightly off the topic of T:2k 4e. Type 45's had a problem with power supply: high electrical demand caused the system to fall over. Supposedly all fixed now (cut open the hull and stick in an extra generator, was the fix, if I recall). The more significant issue is that the o...

Re: While we wait

1st Edition player. Towards the end of last year, I dug out a load of unpainted 20mm figures I had bought (many, many years ago) primarily to use with T:2k, and decided for no particular reason to paint them. Then the KS for 4th edition was announced. I can take a hint... Perhaps slightly more sensi...

Re: French organized crime ....

To be honest, a lot of the GDW stuff was something of a stretch as regards believability (and on occasion dodgy in terms of geography, too) - I don't think I've ever seen a comment from a Brit that thinks that the Survivors' Guide to the UK was anything but laughable as regards the situation in the ...
