The "Food and Drink" section of the gear chapter lists Field Rations, Domestic Food and Wild Food but not water (clean or otherwise) - how many encumbrance units does one ration of water weigh?

Given water is heavy and a ration of food is 0.25, I went with 0.5 but I could easily be wrong.

Water has an encumbrance of ½ (alpha rules p.19)

I agree, it’s an awfull lot off flipping back and forth in the book in order to get all the stats for different gear. I sure hope they adress that before release!

While we’re at it. Does anyone know the weight of a set of lockpicks? Couldn’t find that info in the rules.

Given the game uses encumbrance and not real weights, it should be negligible or 1/4 at most.

To piggy back on this, my group also wanted to know the EU of Fuel.

We decided that a Water Ration would be a 2Qt Canteen as that was standard at the time. 2 Qt is 1.89 L, so we just rounded up to 2l for Fuel so they have the same EU.

A standard 5 Gal Metal Jerry Can is approx 18.9L (round up to 19), so it'd be 9.5 EU when full.

Uhh, a water ration is 1 G/day, or both an American GI's 1 qt canteens plus the 2 quart canteen on their ALICE pack.

However, 1 ENC ≈ 3 kg, so at half an ENC, a water ration is defined as ~1.5 L. Not really enough for a human for a day, but maybe there are other sources of water in food rations and such.

A jerrycan is a 6 ENC container, maybe 7 when full to account for container weight. By definition, it holds 12 or 13 water rations.

For comparison, fuel is consumed in liters in game. One liter of diesel ≈ .85 kg while ethanol and methanol are just under .8kg/L. So a full jerrycan is in the neighborhood of 6 ENC for fuel.

Where do you see an Jerry Can is 6 EUs?

It has a capacity of 18.9L. 1L ≈ 1kg. 1ENC ≈ 3kg. Doing a little math nets a capacity of a little over 6 ENC, add the weight of the can, gives a nominal 7 ENC for a can full of water.

So it's a derived value to game standards converted from real world measures.
