GRIMOIRES
You don’t need your spells written down to cast them, but it makes it easier to get it right. Grimoires are highly sought-after artifacts among sorcerers. If you cast a spell from a book or a scroll, its rank is considered one step lower than usual. In combat, you must spend a fast action readying your grimoire before you can cast the spell. Writing down a spell requires you to first cast it once (chance casting doesn’t count). Then, you must spend a Quarter Day with quill in hand and make a LORE roll. Writing down a ritual takes two Quarter Days.

A grimoire has nothing to do with the use of ingredients or power level. It only affect what rank the spell is counted to have.

The idea with using a grimoire when you cast a spell is that it counts as one Rank lower. So if you are a Sorcerer with Blood Magic Rank 2, you can cast Rank 1 and 2 spells, you can also chance cast Rank 3 spells. If you have the spell Immolation (Blood Magic Rank 2) in a grimoire and you use the grimoire when you cast it, it counts as a Rank 1 spell. This is important for Safe Casting. So in this example, the spell Immolation is one Rank lower than your rank in Blood Magic, that means that when you cast it, you can skip rolling one of the misfire dice. So if you would cast a Power Level 1 Immolation spell using the grimoire, you don't have to roll the misfire die at all. If you have Rank 3 in Blood Magic and is casting the Immolation spell with the help of the grimoire, the spell is two ranks below your rank in Blood Magic, meaning that you can skip rolling up to two misfire dice. You can cast a Power Level 2 Immolation spell safe.
