Pelagia-Druid Win Worst Case Scenario?

Fri 29 May 2020, 22:13

So as my party is playing in Pelagia, it's left me thinking a lot about the scenario. If the druids get their hands on Scarnesbane, isn't that potentially the worst possible scenario? I mean they basically get access to two 'mechs' that they can stomp the countryside with! Destroy just about any city or potentially army on the map. Granted they need to know the locations of said cities, but once they do...

Has this happened in anyone's game?

I guess the main question is, why would they do that?

Note that the titans only work for a maximum of sixty days, OR they perform ONE task and then turn into inert statues. It could admittedly be an interesting sixty days.

Freeing the dragon mother Scarne in Stonegarden would give you a similar one-charge nuclear weapon.

Because a sizeable amount of them are xenophobic racists that want to kill or drive all non-elder races from the Raven Lands.

I don't read the 'sixty day' comment as an absolute time limit on their function. That is only mentioned in reference to them being set free without instruction.

"If no task has been specified, it will wander in a random direction, destroying everything in its path and stopping when it reaches the mountainous barriers of the Forbidden Lands or at most after 60 days."

As for the final sentence about them standing like a statue, that's pretty vague. That could be read as they go permanently inert, or it could simply be that after they finish their task they stand like statues until a new instruction is given.

Well, the text might be unclear, which is why I'm telling you my intention as the one who invented these titans in the first place: They work until they have fulfilled the task given them OR for a maximum of sixty days after having been activated, whichever comes first, and then permanently turn into statues.

Naturally it's up to the GM to change this as he/she sees fit to make the game interesting, but such was my intention.

Ah well, that's interesting to know.

Do the Druids know that is the case? Their plans don't make a lot of sense if they do.

Also, what's up with Ravil's burned victim. It sounds like he killed a druid then took his appearance (since you find 'a druid' when you find the body). But most seem to take it that the sorcerer is jumping bodies with the Blood Magic spell that binds souls, meaning (I think) he's burned his own body and is now living in the druid's?

Ravil was added by others so I can't really say much about him.

Why do you assume the druids plan to release the titans? They might just want to legally own the hammer artifact to add glory to their temple or to keep others from using it. Naturally events may take any direction though.

Because that is literally Heaven's White Fire's plan?

"In the end, he suspects that the hammer can open Watcher’s Rest and dreams of ridding the Forbidden Lands of humans once and for all through the help of the watchers."

He's the one who found/stole the hammer and set all of this in motion in the first place, and from the above it sounds like his goal has always been genocide via this scheme. And as he's just the village potter and a bit of a wanderer, there's no indication that this knowledge of the titans is particularly hidden or unknown by the other druids. Granted they may assume the titans will always sleep since they probably have no idea how to open the alcoves, but I assume others know of the titan's potential.

Ah, sorry, I'm forgetting. My take on this would be that Heaven's White Fire assumes he will able to control the titans for the future and doesn't really know the details of how they work. The druid might have encountered some old, partly erased writing. Why not write up a legend about them?
