Kin Talent help..

I'm looking to create a new Kin along with a Talent.

The kin will be a bearfolk, and I want the kin to give them the ability to go without food & water for a long time, also resist cold....

Would the ability to spend a WP to avoid needing to use a resource for Food & Water be underpowered? If so, how would you suggest making it more useful?

Thanks.

Those things would all be over powered.
No game mechanic should flat out circumvent the survival aspects of the game. A player should never be immune to any kind of hardship.

Instead, make it so every will power they spend is a +1 bonus to the endurance roll to resist the effects of being hungry, thirsty, cold. Or, if that thing doesnt normally have a endurance check, the will power allows for the endurance roll.

Okay, so how about:

Can spend 1 WP to gain a +1 to Endurance checks to avoid COLD for that day. Also, 1 WP to allow an Endurance check to avoid the effects of being Hungry, Thirsty or Tired for the day.

How would that sound?

Add that each consecutive time that they use the talent to resist hunger without food, thirst without water, or cold without warmth the endurance check suffers a cumative -1 penalty.

So that it gets harder and harder to avoid the consequences. But the player can prolong it.

How about rather than taking a penalty on subsequent rolls, it costs more WP? 2 for the second day, 3 for the third etc?

Adding more willpower to the cost means that eventually the roll just stops dead when the player can no longer afford it. A continually growing penalty means the player can still make a roll, even an unlikely one, which to me is more interesting. I always err on the side of the players having "soft caps" that allow them to do things even with barely a sliver of a chance of success then "hard caps" where you just flat out tell the player no.

Yeah, I understand your point.. Okay, I think I'll go with the penalty to the roll and see how it works out.

Thanks for your input.

Check out the MYZ Genlab Alpha book. It let's you create sentient animal characters with all sorts of animal abilities. There's one in there that lets you spend a WP to ignore food and water requirements for 1 day.

Ah, thanks. I'll check it out.

Also, make sure not to make the talent too similar to the hunters path of the forest. That would in effect make that talent obsolete for hunters of that kin.
