slow/fast actions confusion

Reading through I am struggling to keep the slow/fast action distinction in my small brain, in Mutant I believe the distinction is action or manoeuvre which I am much happier with.  I know it isn't a big deal and that I will get used to it, and also that it features in Coriolis in the current form.

Slow and Fast Actions. I kind of like it. You can only make on Slow Action (besides special circumstances like a talent) but you can downgrading your Slow Action to a Fast Action and the you can make two Fast Actions. I think it’s better than Standard and Quick Actions in 13th Age or Full and Half Actions in WFRP.

I personally prefer WFRP's full and half action terminology. Says exactly what it means. Some actions use up half your turn, others use up the full turn. Two half actions make a full action. Doesn't get easier to grasp than that.

That's not how it works in FBL though, as you can perform one slow and one fast action per turn, or two fast actions.

Yep, all good, but again this is part of the issue with the wording. I read those rules on Thursday, and on Friday I'm already mixing them up.

What I do find interesting is the change in terminology from MYZ. What's the design reason for doing this? Like lupex, I think actions and maneuvers are better, for a couple of reasons.

1) If a MYZ mechanic isn't changing, and it fits thematically, it's less confusing to just keep the wording the same. I don't see what "slow" and "fast" add to the theme here in FL.
2) "Actions" and "maneuvers" are used in many other RPGs, so the rules here are probably easier to grasp for most roleplayers.

I really think the terms Fast and Slow Actions are very reasonable and aren’t confusing. If you don’t like them change them in your house rules.
And Actions and Maneuvers? Hm, Maneuvers aren’t Actions? I find this confusing ;)
I found this discussion nitpicking. Don’t want to anger anybody but these are two terms that are easily learned and understand. There are two tables for these Actions in the rules. I played many games and I always arranged me with the terms for Actions.
Sorry doesn’t want to sound rude.
I really like that Fria Ligan allows us to give input for the game but they are the developers and they should have a saying also ;)
And I think there a really parts of the rules that we can contribute e.g. the talents, skills as Scout or Sneak.

Feedback is always welcome. :)

The reason for the change from MYZ is that we thought it would be less confusing this way. Also, there is no clear difference between fast and slow actions (apart from them being fast/slow) to motivate having different terms for them. Finally, this way we can use the term "actions" to encompass all actions, instead if the cumbersome "actions and maneuvers".

Thank you for the explanation :)

I guess that raises another question, would it not be easier to just say that characters can perform two actions in a turn, especially as a turn now takes up to a minute.  Some of the fast actions such as shove and disarm, feel no different to an attack?

I am sure that I will get used to whatever term sticks for this, especially once this becomes my weekly game, and i am happy to hear other players are less confused.

A round can be up to one minute - or it can be mere seconds or a longer time. That’s what I read in the rules. And the difference between Fast and Slow Actions is that you can take two Fast Actions and not two Slow - besides you have access to a special ability like a talent. If you take this away you can always attack twice and I think that’s not supposed to happen.
