Dodge

Is it right that after a successful or unsuccessful dodge you go to the ground (prone)?

Yup. There is a talent that you can take to avoid that. Probably will be a first choice talent for characters that want to rely on dodge for avoiding attacks.

Good catch, I didn't see that.  So basically, untrained characters literally dive to the ground to avoid melee attacks...  Interesting idea.

I know one other game that used such a rule. Couldn't say that I like it very much. I can parry but only with weapons with the Parry attribute or a shield. And if I want to dodge I fall prone if unsuccessful - except you have Steady Feet at Level 2. Duck is Dodge it seems ;)

I don´t like it eather. Dodging seems a very bad choice until having that talent on Level 2 or 3.
What about a chance to prone, perhaps if unsuccessful or a move roll to check ...

I'm personally not a huge fan of adding in extra dice rolls during combat.

What about giving the PCs a negative modifier to their Dodge roll (say, - 2) if they don't want to fall prone? Then the talent removes that penalty.

Or maybe they only fall Prone if they score more 1's than 6's on their attempt?

That way you are not asking for another roll, or even having to keep track of any modifiers either.

Or only if you press the roll. It's a core tenet of the skill rules that you only count ones if you press a roll anyway. Would be nice to not have exceptions.

Either way I'm also hesitant about the always prone rule as it currently stands.

Fair comment on the pressing..

On a related note, I'd suggest adding a caveat to the 3rd level Steady Feet talent to say the character can't be Shoved by someone of the same or smaller size. I imagine it's easier for a Giant to Shove you than it is another human or halfling.
