Principia Apocrypha: a free booklet on good practices for old school roleplaying

Fri 01 Dec 2017, 13:31

Hi!

I stumbled upon this thing: https://plus.google.com/100235234777467 ... 2c8kwEfZpw

Essentially, some designers wrote guidelines for running and playing OSR games. This is an excellent document that gets to the core of what old school roleplaying means.

Since we all here plan to run such a game in the future, it might be of interest for everyone to read and understand these principles. Hope some people find it useful!

Thanks for the link! That guide is full of good GM advice generally, not just for OSR games - a great resource at first skim!

Though let's not forget that Forbidden Lands is "retro" with "modern" mechanics, not "Old School Renaissance". Might be a small thing to mention, but lumping it in with the OSR and its glut of D&D clones is doing Forbidden Lands a disservice, I feel.
I make YZE games (https://drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?author=Matt%20Kay) and produce predominately Free League content on my YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@3skulls)
