Weird numbers

Hey guys... maybe I'm dense and missed something, but what the heck are the numbers in the little grey crosses beside each listing in the Beasts and Djinni chapter? For example, the Nekatra has a "+2" in the emblem... plus two what? Thanks.

Page 316, Creatures and Culture explain that the numbers are modifiers used in a CULTURE test to identify the creature.
