Personally, I'm interested in the Swedish setting most of all. But the U.S. setting has been unlocked and enough people have voiced that they want to see other locations.

The most popular are:
Japan
Russia
Germany [East/West]

Are there other places people want to explore? And how will that affect the nature of the games?

The Swedish setting is where it belongs, of course. I'd rather explore that in depth than go to other places. On the other hand, I am nervous that I don't know the area well enough to play effectively in that setting, whereas growing up in the US that setting would be a natural fit. I wonder how much setting information will be included? Are there other ways to research Sweden in the 80s? Any good movies or stories out there?

Well, I'm Australian, so the default setting of most games is Anywhere Else. Which has its good moments. For instance, if we set a game in New York and I say a hospital exists on such-and-such street, it exists there because the players know about as much of the city as I do. We played an "End of the World" zombie RPG that got bogged down in unnecessary details since it was set in Melbourne and the GM didn't know a certain suburb as well as the players.

I think "Tales From The Loop" will cover the Swedish aspect (and the 80's aspect!) in great detail. But as for Swedish movies/TV shows, I'm only familiar with "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", "Let The Right One In" and "The Bridge". The most relevant movie for this game might be - gulp - "Let The Right One In"?

That made me laugh about Melbourne. It actually made me feel better, too. I'll check out the movies you suggested. The only one I could think of was "Mio in the Land of Faraway" from the 80s and you can't  find that anywhere now. The major draw for the game, for me, is playing around in a time long ago (lol) and in a place far away so I look forward to it.

I´m Swedish, so to me the setting is very familiar to me. I guess there is something very Swedish in most of Stålenhags´ pictures. Some things are very obvious – such as cars, signs and the landscapes. But I would say there are also something else, more subtle details. A certain feeling.

Having that said, I would agree that "Let The Right One In" (there are two quite different versions of the film – a Swedish and an American) describes Sweden in a way that is relevant here. The movies are based on a novel.

Perhaps also "Show me love" has something that might be interesting here. There is nothing sci fi about that movie, but the atmosphere is just very Swedish, I guess. Looks like the Hometown Hacks got unlocked on Kickstarter. With this we can make our quaint little town the setting for potential campaigns (or a nostalgia-drenched faux town; like Hill Valley from the "Back To The Future" series, or Hawkins, Indiana from "Stranger Things" or San Junipero from "Black Mirror").

How will this affect plot? With Mälaröarna, it seems like an isolated place. Will a bigger population result in different confrontations? How much flavour is lost, or gained, when we relocate to a town much more familiar to us?

I've written a short piece (three pages) on life as a teenager in Sweden in the 80's. If there's need for additional info, I can translate it, but not before we see what's included in the rulebook. It is mostly about how school, media, and tech affected our lives.

I think a fun sourcebook would be a school yearbook. There could be dozens of little story hooks, notes from students, information about clubs, sports teams and bizarre going ons in the year before the game takes place. Having an actual, physical copy would give the players something to flip through as the adventures get played out (much in the way Kenneth Hite's "Dracula Dossier" works in Trail of Cthulhu). So to that I say, keep writing, Björn. It will be useful for someone.

Alas, school yearbooks aren't the same in Sweden as in the US. They are just books with photos of the classes (and any societies), with little or no additional info. I'm hard pressed to think of a suitable "period" format to use.
Here's the paragraph I've written on schools (quick and dirty Google translate):
"School was nine years, beginning the year you turned seven, and there was usually better order in the classrooms than now. If you did not live in an area with an immigrant population, it wasn't unusual that the classes were almost completely ethnically Swedish, possibly with a classmate with parents from Finland or Yugoslavia, or one parent from e.g. Poland, or adopted from South Korea. The grading scale was from 1-5, with 5 as the highest grade. One was a bookworm if one averaged about 4 or better (phys ed didn't need to be counted). In math classes, you could use a calculator, but back then not everyone owned one, so there was usually a set available to borrow. In the early 80's, computers were introduced in secondary schools and high school, usually the ABC 80 from Luxor.
