I'm too 80s to see it exactly that way, Zapp.
Shadowrun as well as Cyberpunk 2020 influenced me most, those p&ps were about blinking chrome, and the real technological marvels were those that immediately struck the eye. We went into quite another direction in the real world today, of course, in which technology is impressive when you don't even know it's there and gadgets become ever more microscopic in nature. When the Shadowrun of the new millennium tried to adapt this simple fact, it became next to uninteresting to me.
Generally, as a GM, I abhor technology when I don't have the opportunity to describe it in detail. Thankfully, I see plenty of possibilities for that in Coriolis, thanks to the Arabian Nights theme and the obsession with the ornamental (well evident in practically all official artwork). Weapons, gear, space suits and yes of course cybernetics as well should see all kinds of social envy in the fictional world when their ravishing design puts the minimalist crap of today's Apple products to rightful shame.
Of course, without the grease, guts and blood, even the most detailed and eye catching cybernetic part just plain doesn't work. Best of both worlds!
