Resilience & Criticals ?

Mon 10 Aug 2026, 10:45

When you take a critical from Damage or Sharp Damage, and turn the damage to stress with the Resilience Talent (p.77), do you negate the damage so Criticals are not calculated? Or does the character still take a critical?

For example, a character gets hit with 3 Sharp Damage. The player has Resilience and converts the damage to Stress and loses 3 Resolve.
Does the GM still have roll on the Criticals Table?

Thank you.

The Resilience talent says whenever you "would" take damage to your Health. It converts it into stress beforehand, so if taking the stress results in no damage left, then the GM would not roll on the critical injuries table (and the character would take no damage). If the character didn't have enough Resolve to convert all the damage, then whatever damage remains would be the number added to the D6 when rolling on the critical injuries table.

Makes sense! How would Resilience interact with a Double Damage stunt, then? Double Damage doubles the damage from the attack, before reduction for Armor.
Would this mean that FIRST I calculate final damage, then I convert some of it into Stress (using Resilience); or first I convert some of the (base) Damage to Stress, and only the remaining Damage becomes Damage, which can be doubled? (Because this is not reduction for Armor).

Any stunts like Double Damage or Deadly Blast / Strike would be applied first - it's just a matter that at the end of applied stunts, some of all of the damage could end up being stress instead. So if someone hit for damage of 4, then applied Double Damage to get it to 8, a character with Resilience could end up converting all of that to stress as long as they had at least 8 Resolve left.
