Artificer of Eregion

Wed 05 Aug 2026, 00:14

” You have studied the ancient craft of the greatest craftsmen of your kin, the Elven-smiths of Eregion.

Next Yule, you may either add a single Enchanted Reward of Elven craftsmanship to a weapon of your choice, or create a Marvellous Artefact (your choice).”

What player can do with this skill? Can he make unlimited amouth of magical items. If I give player a magical weapon or armour. Can the player just make the wepon better and better adding things to it. Or can he just make things from normal iten and make unlimited amounth of lesser magical items?

I am wondering how LM handle this skill and what are its limits and what player actually can do with it. Should i reduce the loot table if and when player make magical things by himself or is it purpose that the group that has artificer or several can just make magical items so that every gear they have is sooner or later magical and after that they also get more magical items from the treasure table, if they are lucky to roll well enough.
This seems wery powefull virtue. So any ides how LM elsewhere has handled this thing.

It's only the next Yule, so it only happens once. One item gets upgraded (or made).

I wouldn't adjust the Treasure Index for this. They're trading a Virtue slot for it the extra power, so it balances out.

So you get only one item with this skill?
Hmm... much more limited than I was thinking...

If so, yeah it definitely can not affect treasure index...

Yeah, just the one. If you take it in year 1, then the next Yule is at the end of that year. Year 2's Yule is not the next Yule, so it doesn't qualify. To be honest, if it were every year, it would get overpowered. That's potentially ten magic items, plus whatever you find.

Also, you're not creating magical weapons or armour - you're adding to existing ones. That's actually very powerful. Consider, your generous LM could have given you Foe-Slaying, Superior Fell and Biting Dart for your bow. Now you get to add Superior Keen. You'll be munching through enemies like a kid with cookies.

Of course, that's an extreme example, but highlights why adding it to a pre-existing weapon is so powerful.

Many thanks!
I was looking that feature and... whoa... this is game breaking powerfull without any restrictions, so this explains a lot!
He does not have any magical weapon yet... I expect that normal transfer rules apply? If he ever find one for him that I have foreseen in out treasure index...

One more question... This virtue can only be taken ones? At least not should be able to put to the same item twice even if that is possible... I feel that this is thematically like making your own "one ring"... You pour so much of your soul/essence/lifeforce to that item that you can not make another...

Technically, the rules only prohibit taking General Virtues more than once each. So, it could be argued that a Player can take Artificer of Eregion more than once. Of course, if they did then they would only be getting one of the two benefits on subsequent occasions (although that is the benefit they will want :D ).
Blistering barnacles!

Then pass it on via Raise an Heir....that could end in an uberpowerful weapon. Takes dedication, but it could be a beast. Worthy of Tulkas.

That's not 100% clear, but given the wording and how much Virtue slot is worth, I'd have it unlocked and usable by virtue of it being present (like the first Reward on a famous weapon or armour), rather than requiring a Valour increase to unlock it etc.
