New GM here, getting ready to run the starter set mystery with some friends. I'm planning to add a couple vaettir to the castle as permanent residents (under the fireplace, of course). Assuming the players succeed in banishing the haunting vaesen, the vaettir will come out of hiding after the confrontation is over, and thank the players for restoring peace to the castle.
The first one -- yet to be named -- likes to imitate human activities without fully understanding what they are. He'll sit on the mantlepiece with a makeshift pipe and imitate smoking. He'll pull out a scrap of paper and act like he's reading.
The second one -- also unnamed -- likes to imitate the butler in particular. She'll follow him around, or stand beside him, copying his actions and mannerisms.
Assuming we play more than the one session, I get a couple benefits from this:
1. It's a way to provide comedic relief.
2. It's a way to remind the players vaesen aren't inherently evil.
3. It can be a way to provide the occasional clue. Maybe the vaettir know a thing or two about others of their kind.
No real question here, just wanted to share. I really like the potential in this game for creative thinking.
