The Solomons is 1 parsec from Jackson's Star

Fri 29 Aug 2025, 04:41

There's something I don't understand: in the Evolved Beta CoreRules with the star map, we see that the ALPHAEOS system (LV-410 Colony Jackson's Star) is at coordinates (Rimward 7.5 & Trailward 14, maybe I had to put negatives at both). In short, if it takes 9 years (according to the movie ALIEN ROMULUS) in hypersleep to make the trip to the YVAGA system (or colony), and the USCSS CORBELAN-4 (which is a CM93D Mule model, with an FTL rating of 20), where are they going seriously... ?

I mean, in the same parsec, there's the ALPHA CAELI THE SOLOMONS system, less than 1 parsec away, which is a 20-day trip. You follow me, WEYLAND-YUTANI lied to them because there are other colonies nearby (or I don't understand well).

Does anyone have an explanation... it's the great mystery of my evening...

P.S. Can we know where Yvaga is on the star map?

I imagine they want to go to Yvaga specifically because:
A) They've heard it's amazing; and
B) There's no W-Y/corporate presence there.

The Solomons are closer, yeah, but there's a USCM post, and the crew are ducking out of their (lawful) corporate contracts - they need to go somewhere unaffiliated, or else they'll be arrested and shipped straight back.

EDIT: As far as where it is... shrug? Sure, the Corbelan has an FTL Rating of 20, but that's presumably with the ideal fuel situation, and we don't know what kind of allowance Wey-Yu would have given the ship, since it's only meant to be doing hops to the rings and back. There's every possibility that they were intending to travel for 9 years at sub-light speeds, meaning the distance is much, much shorter than we might assume.

Indeed, that must be it. I too thought that they (Rain and the others) were looking for a colony unaffiliated with WEYLAND-YUTANI, and that must be the explanation. It just seems like they're in a remote corner of space (in the movie), but there are other colonies (Weyland) very nearby.

Yvaga III (in the Yvaga System) or the Y-13 designation, which is fully terraformed, must be outside our Alien RPG star map. Has anyone already done any research?

I thought of something yesterday for the necessary travel with a non-FTL ship. We could go with a non-FTL rating of 20 (or something else for better engines), which would mean the number of years (or months, not days) for a trip across 1 parsec.

FTL rating = number of days per 1 parsec
non-FTL rating = number of years (months) per 1 parsec

Anyway, it's just an idea.
