Tue 06 May 2025, 10:48

Hi!

Please use this thread to post feedback and report any typos or errors in the BETA PDF of the ALIEN RPG Evolved Edition Core Rulebook, no later than June 1. Please not that page references (page xx) and the index at the back are not completed yet so please ignore these. The PDF files will be updated on DrivethruRPG to the final versions later. Before reporting an error, please check to see if it has already been reported. If so, don't report it again.

Thank you for your support!

Some initial thoughts from a quick flick through the PDF

A better rule for ammo use might be that each extra success can cancel out a single face hugger on the ammo roll. Allowing 1 success to cancel out all ammo degradation is more likely to lead to an infinite ammo supply problem.

I'm confused about the difference between burst and full auto fire. The terms seem to be used interchangeably in the rules, but the pulse rifle description says it fires in bursts or full auto - I feel if this is specifically mentioned, there ought to be a mechanical difference.

The pulse rifle says it fires via an electronic pulse - but caseless ammo in reality is still an explosive charge, and in the movies it's clear from the muzzle flash it's explosive, not electronic. I don't know where the term 'pulse rifle' comes from, but this can't be it.

There should be some kind of weapons reliability rule if that's the reason the F44AA was replaced by the M41A.

The M41AE2 clearly DOES have a grenade launcher, per the image - it's exactly the same as the one on the M41A. It's not clear where it's storing 5 Ammo worth of ammunition when the M41A only has 3 for the same-looking magazine size.

I feel like the core rule for armour ("When you take damage from an external attack, the damage caused is reduced by the armor level.") is a bit buried at the end of the paragraph. I can see this being hard to find when trying to reference the rule in a game. I'd prefer this in its own paragraph, or bolded.

Images of the pulse rifles are missing the trigger on the grenade launcher...

There's also a typo where it says grenate and not grenade launcher.

Page 12 (book) / 16 (PDF) ends abruptly.

"....fledgling organizations" without resuming on pg 13/17.

I just quickly viewed the PDF
On page 85, the rule of F44AA Pulse Rifle. It should be a 'smart sight' rule in its special effect.
In the movie Alien Romulus, F44AA worked as a smart weapon like M56. And this smart aiming system was succeeded by M56. It could be an omission.

For the PDF Campaign Frame section is capitalized oddly.

And NON-PLayers Characters is capitalized oddly and should be changed to Non-player Characters
Image

I realized there's a couple of these odd capitalizations, Space and Time, Action and Movement, Weapons, etc.

Also is there a reason why certain sections are FULLY CAPITILIZED vs not?

Should be translated to Non-player Characters, vs Players (On Bookmark section and on the title below)

While reading the Stress rules I looked into how to work out resolve and it states that the Hardened talent can adjust this, but the talent only states increasing Health. Should it refer to Resolve as well or should it be a different talent?

In order to be most useful as a skirmish wargame rules set, there should be a one or two page rules summary with the relevant charts. Nearly every skirmish wargame provides this sort of thing, and very often among wargamers the strength of such a sheet is used (at least in part) to grade the rules.
If possible, I'd recommend adding this to the book.

In the Stars of the Middle Heavens map, the colony of KOI-2770 is misspelled Izvinte, whereas in the Building Better Worlds book where that colony is described on page 112 (and on the Far Spinward Colonies map) it is spelled Izvinite. That world is taken from the New Worlds maps from the defunct Prometheus / Weyland Corp website where the spelling was KOI-2770.01: IZVINITE OUTPOST.

BTW, it is not mentioned anywhere but since this is the only world that appears on both maps, I assume this is the passage where travellers can enter the Lost Colonies of the Far Spinward from the main Middle Heavens.
