the releases of publications are going fast

Tue 11 Mar 2025, 17:34

I personally find that the release of new books is going very fast (too fast). Well it's true I also have a game-table with the ALIEN RPG which takes up a lot of my time.

We shouldn't complain I know (the more publications there are, the happier we are) but I have just digested the MORIA THROUGH THE DOORS OF DURIN that the REALMS OF THE THREE RINGS will be released soon. I saw the kick starter pdf (wow another magnificent work and lots of readings in anticipation).

I know ... I know ... we shouldn't complain but it's going very fast ... but it could slow down a little and it wouldn't bother me at all ...

p.s. I still have a lot of stories to prepare with the other publications ...

If all things were equal, I'd prefer a faster pace. We can always play catch up if it comes faster than we have pace for. However, my players are largely stuck in Eriador (except for Moria, which is a specific taste, and Lorien which is pretty brief). It'd be nice to be able to open the map up. Do you want to do Eriador? Or head to Rohan? Gondor? Wilderland? Etc.

At the end of the day, if we're not ready to visit Moria, it's not hurting if we ignore it until we want it. I'm also a little concerned that we'll hit the reset button/the edition will end before we fill out Middle-Earth (well, the bits we'd generally want to explore, having read a fair amount about them from the books anyway). I'd like to hit Gondor, Wilderland etc before that happens.

That said, all things are not equal. I don't want them rushing content and ending up having lots of mediocre content. If they have to go slower due to that, then so be it. Quality is the hallmark of this game versus others.

I agree with you Linklite, having several options for the game-table is very good, north, west, east and south ... Eriador, Moria, Lorien, Rohan, Gondor, Wildlands ...

Currently, I have a lot of stories to do with the Hobbits, stories with the Ruins Of The Lost Realm, stories with Tales From The Lone Lands, stories with Moria (lots of them), stories with the Realms Of The Three Rings ... it's not the stories that are lacking in any case. It's certain that there is nothing lost because the stories will come eventually even if the books accumulate ...

I keep my game-table with my Alien RPG players and I do my solo stories with the One Ring, maybe my players will want to do stories in the One Ring one day. But for now, these are solo stories so I control my destinations pretty much by myself ....

I have no worries about the quality of the content. To date, everything is perfect and everything is terribly very good and excellent. There is maybe the Tales From The Lone Lands (a simple little grain of sand) that left me hungry (a certain lack of organization in the book, stories too long, I like very short settings and adding items to the scenarios myself). But overall, everything is very good.

That‘s literally the first time I hear a complaint about too many books released too fast. But I get it! We’re not used to it. In TOR 1e we had quite the dry spell for a time. Now I’m really happy and excited, how everything is playing out.

I'm also really happy and excited, that's for sure... but I have a ton of books to read and a ton of adventures to do ...

Having a ton of books to read and a ton of adventures to do ... is better than the opposite ... waiting for the books ... hahahaha!

Honestly, I kind of feel that at the moment things are a bit slow. It's been two years, and the main contributions have been Ruins and Moria. Three Rings was good but was more filling out the edges of Eriador and Tales was just six adventures - we're getting material slower than we can play through them.

We have the new Starter Set, and allegedly we have an adventure book coming which would help. However, the adventure book was written over a year ago now and no sign of it since, so I'm worried about whether that's just gone for some reason. Rohan is in the works, but I don't know when that is coming - probably next year would be my guess.

As I said, I prefer quality over speed, but it does feel a bit slow to me. I haven't played for a long while now (the campaign I was a player for died, and my family one is on hiatus due to young children), but it doesn't feel like I'm going to be spoiled for choice when I get back into it. I have plenty of material for a while, but it does feel like once we get going again, the lead time won't be enough to keep it going perpetually.

I appreciate the different perspective here, but part of the issue seems to be that you're spread across different games.

The current release pace doesn't overwhelm people with material from either a riding/financial perspective - I wouldn't want things to slow down, and I'm enjoying the current mix of quality and frequency. Just because something has been published, doesn't mean I have to use it, but it gives me more options to choose from and more ideas to mine, more foes/NPCs to use etc. If anything, a little more frequent would be nice, but I wouldn't want to sacrifice quality.

Yes, thanks Harlath, I'm indeed torn, not between different games, but between two very interesting universes: "Alien" and "The One Ring." But all of this was discussed previously in the post, my dear Harlath. We all want books out, even if we hoard them, it allows us to have options in the south, north, east, and west....

I'll come back to Linklite's point. I think there are a lot of very interesting elements in MORIA. Starting a new group to clean up MORIA. If I had time to spare, that's the kind of scenario I would do. Just an idea for you Linklite, my friend.

P.S. You can even have your players play orcs, the orcs of Mordor against the other tribes. That's a very interesting scenario that deserves development...

Take care, guys,
Arthur.

Just a question like that: in the book "REALMS OF THE THREE RINGS," I don't think I read any passages about the Mirkwood elves and Thranduil... maybe my memory is failing me, or maybe they didn't actually mention the Mirkwood elves in that book... am I wrong or not... and do you know why they didn't mention them...

Because the book is about the Three Elven Rings, and Thranduil doesn't have one.

Mirkwood was covered extensively in 1e, and while it would be nice to come back to it at some point, it didn't fit the geographic or thematic elements of this book.

The Wood Elf culture is available in 2e's "Peoples of Wilderland".
