Hey guys, I have a couple questions I need help with. I'm getting ready to start a campaign, but I'm a little stuck on how to proceed.
1. Does anyone know of a solid beginner scenario? Either home brewed on online (ie...Drivethru)
2. If I decide to create a beginner friendly one, what would you recommend putting in it?
The group will be 3 PCs and an NPC ran by me.
You can use one of the scenario sites included with the corebooks, draw a couple of random event cards and use that as your jumping off point. Drivethru has a lot of community content for scenarios as well.
Really depends on what you are interested in running for a story, in combination with what the type of gameplay the players are interested in.
I started out with a campaign with a "mcguffin", operation reset had one of its main points to rescue fusion scientists that had been working on ITER prewar, survived war, and made a breakthrough for using a reduced sized stellerator. Scientists had been in warsaw, evac'd southwest when war was coming, captured by soviets but they got word out to NATO and team of delta/rangers ran opt to get them out (spearheaded with the 2nd armored then wound their way back through lines to the 5th ID just as it got overrun).
So players had a goal of finding scientists current locale, then get them out of poland to evac site in Wilhelmshaven Germany.
Just sandboxed my/our way through poland to german border, close enough for a FARP (forward arming and refueling point) of two of the last chinook helicopters in european theatre to airlift them back to Wilhelmshaven [this was mostly me trying to get them to america faster as we were just past a year of playing at this point).
Between that mcguffin and waiting for the U.S. evac to america (doing special missions to assist with those efforts in/around germany), We are closing on year two of a weekly campaign. Last few months realtime has been them deciding to Base Build a mothballed Type 143A Gepard class back into usable condition (with some customizations of the back deck using shipping containers, since all the missile racks were stripped/gone).
I figure 4-5 more sessions will get them back to america with the evac fleet, Task Force 34.
So two years, based on just an initial scenario with initial mcguffin goal (direction) and just sandbox prepping each session as we went.
Also, now with AI, you can really get some help with suggestions for plot hooks etc.
