Elven Skill

Tue 14 May 2024, 19:50

An Elf can get a magical result when spending hope. How does this work on a skill endeavor. Does the player complete the endeavor with this magical succes? Does he get any additional successes, as if he rolled extra ‘6’-es?

The ‘How to read succes die’-page only gives normal, great and extraordinary succes.

If it fits the circumstances I often benchmark a magical success as an extra 6 at minimum.

One of the writers wrote on Discord about Elven-Skill that it should be treated as at least an extra tengwar (6 a Success Due) when used (that wasn't specific to Skill Endeavours, but is applicable).

My take from that is that I'd give them an addition Success (so two for Elven-Skill, plus whatever they get from the roll), then something extra that indirectly helps. Perhaps they learn something, or they convince a key person, they get something that's thematic to the success that isn't just a third Success.

I think the advice of Elven Skill being worth at least an extra tengwar should be included in the CRB. It's an important part of parsing the ability, in my opinion.
