Was playing in a session as a player a couple of weeks ago (I LM but also play) and a rules question came up on the maximum number of dice that can be rolled or one skill or test.

I did not look it up as the LM then said there was no limit but it stuck with me.

Been peeling through my core book and no luck on a rule about this but it struck me as having read about that before, perhaps in the 1st Edition however.


Any other kindly LMs could point me the right way...?

Technically, no limit. Practically speaking though, you're never going to be rolling 100 d6s. I think it's a maximum of 6 for the Proficiencies, 1 or 2d for Hope, 1d for an assist, then however many you award for circumstances. I've yet to roll or see a roll of more than six.

Your memory serves you well: in 1e the limit was six d6 plus the d12.

(Mastery dice could be rolled too, but a maximum of six d6 were to be applied in any roll that I can remember)

In 2e I am feeling confident that there is no such prescribed limit to the number of d6 that might be gained.
