Indeed, there are great similarities.
And although it's a blurb from an old novel, I prefer Coriolis Station being Casablanca meets Blade Runner.

I'd say yes, in fact I recall it being mentioned on the Kickstarter. In particular the ties individuals would have to the colony world they were born on or their faction, and virtually no reference to Earth of course.

So I just ordered the first season of "The Expanse" on Blu Ray. If it's crap, you're going to pay! 

Regardless, I already see on imdb how criticism voiced against the series would make this much to my liking, and plays into my idea of the Coriolis universe: The protagonists are mostly dirt poor and while "Star Trek" technology may exist, it's just much too expensive for most people. They basically have to get along with 2016 NASA stuff.

Actually... for a criticism that hits the nail on the head on some of the parts where it really shines... in addition to a good cultural mix... and there's even a little "dark" thing thrown in to boot!

I've watched seven episodes of the Expanse yesterday and will likely watch three more today. I'll say, it's good stuff with just the right amount of grit, and I'm getting to like the characters as well. You could easily pack the scenario into Coriolis I guess, especially the character roles encountered there seem to match Coriolis' set surprisingly well. Religion is mostly off the table in the Expanse though, you'd have to add that.

Few things irk me about the Expanse series as of yet, but if I had to name any concerns, I'd say that even though the space battle sequences are pretty damn neat, ship design is rather uninspired and could have a bit more of a fantastical/ornamental vein for me. Also, the story centers on some young white dudes a liiiittle too much. There are definite exceptions, but I often feel as if they had alibi character.
