Re: A TW2K Solo Campaign Story

This is a great series. Just read part 29 today and wonder if helmets should provide armour to the head for absolutely every shot. In my view, dramatically it would have been better if NASCAR's 3 damage M1911A1 headshot had hit the enemy LEADER in the face and killed him outright, rather than hitting his helmet, especially as pistol rounds increase the the armour value of the helmet by +1. I think if I had been doing that scene I'd have required the enemy LEADER to make a saving roll to see if his helmet took the round rather than his unprotected face. Maybe 4-6 on a D6 for the helmet to take the round.
Thanks!

I went back and checked my notes, but found no complaints about the mechanics. I guess that being only my third fight I was sticking to the rules at every step.

Also, the group (or rather the city’s militia) got a prisoner out of it, and that’s a helpful resource for advancing the story (think intel and the like). Though it could be increasingly difficult to narratively justify non-lethal headshots, especially if there’s more than one in a single fight.

Of course, at a moment of peak tension, the Referee can always house-rule what happens and stir the narration, whether it’s for dramatic purposes or for the sake of the story.

Keep reading, the campaign continues!

If I recall the earlier versions of T2k had helmets protect 50% of time if hit in face and 75% for sides and rear (for pasgt helmet style). A soviet SSh-68 helmet would be just more around 50% all sides. Adds more crunch to the game.

Same with needing to do a constitution roll for getting your bell rung. When I start up the 2nd (america) part of my campaign, I will be adding that house rule that if you get beaned in the head, that's a stamina roll or you are dazed/unconscious and need to stamina roll to wake up. :)

Hello again everyone!

The campaign has now reached its 50th post, and I saw it fitting to report here a very brief summary of the group’s (and blog’s) activities in the World War III that never was.

The group has escaped Kalisz and the fate of 5th division, travelling South while keeping away of the main roads. Their path was dotted by small, inconsequential events until they reached Praszka, where they found themselves in between the town’s defendants and an assaulting force.

There they received the first hook pointing further South, which they followed, and that has now brought them into the Silesia region – and Black Madonna territory.
The campaign is now in its 10th day, the players have fought four major fights, and the ongoing fifth will be resolved in the next post. I had a chance to both defend a position and assault one, use small arms, grenades, AT, and a very effective mortar. And, of course, there has been an abundance of Survival, Recon and Persuasion rolls, lots of conversations, a great deal of exploring, some light-hearted moments, and a few grim occasions.

I had a chance to introduce a handful of NPCs, both from the official manuals and of my own creation, and advance the story with the rich material provided by the game and my own ideas. And dice rolls, lots of dice rolls.

In parallel with the campaign, I have created a ‘resources’ section which I’m populating with – hopefully – useful and easy to reference information that can help complement a player or referee’s experience.

So far it has been fun to play (and write) this story, and there’s more on the horizon for the coming months.

Hi!

Glad to hear you liked the Escape from Kalisz part(s).

As stated in the posts’ comments, I opted for a completely narrative beginning for my campaign (I play solo, so no player complained); going forward – post 01 onward - you’ll get all the dice rolls and behind-the-scenes, and an overall layer of all the mechanics and decisions that contributed to the progressing of the story. You can skip all of that, but it’s present nonetheless.

All to say: if you could share an updated opinion when you’re further into the story/campaign (73 posts as of today), that would be much appreciated.

And of course, a happy new year to all readers!

Hi everybody!

Quick update: this solo campaign has now reached its 100th entry, and I have recently published a ‘milestone’ post summarizing the group’s journey in visual form, as well as giving an indication of what is – and is not – to come.

So far it’s been a lot of fun (role)playing this T2K adventure, and there’s still a deep pool of potential ready to be tapped. Also, there’s more T2K stories from other corners of the internet I’d like to shine a spotlight on.

I still consider myself new to blogging; but my site’s analytics tell me that in the past two years I have experienced a monthly number of visitors in the hundreds. If you are among them, you have my deepest thanks, along with the hope that following this story was worth the time it took you to read it.
