Do you allow players to push their wits roll when attempting to learn a new talent?
I can see pushing the roll being abused while in a village, since the adventurers can immediately rest/sleep to heal up any loss of attributes, then attempt again.
I think you're mistaken here, because in this case the would simply be no damage by pushed rolls to the attributes. If recall correctly, this is not a skill roll, but an attribute roll. Only skill rolls can be pushed.
Again, if I recall correctly.

As far as I can see, there are no distinct types of rolls in the Forbidden lands rules. The rules we have describe how to roll using attributes and skills (and items) and imply that ALL rolls are skills rolls. So if we want to be technical about it, I don't think attribute rolls exist within the rules. For a reader without experience of other Free League systems, I think the reasonable assumption when told to do an attribute roll is that it works just like a regular roll but with only attribute dice, ergo it can be pushed.pg 44 player handbook: If you are desperate to succeed with a skill roll, you can choose to push it.
The Charisma roll is not a skill roll, ergo it can not be pushed.
