Both in person and running my play by post I tend to be pretty transparent with mechanics: I find this helps players understand things and also aids in catching mistakes on my part.

If it fits the circumstances I often benchmark a magical success as an extra 6 at minimum.

Is it worth noting some of the mechanics/key rolls at the end? Avoid breaking up the narrative, but can help show others how mechanics have influenced the story.

The plan was for 1e, to create starter set with the Misty Mountains as main area. No worries - they still get a virtue and reward for rank 1 in each. It note that cultural virtues aren’t available until wisdom 2.

An error, characters can buy wisdom/valour 2 with previous experience during character creation.

It was covered in TOR 1e via the Elves of Lorien culture, who had it as a cultural virtue. They could make it and share it with their company to boost the fellowship pool.

This seems like it will lead to some weird, non thematic d&d 5e style being knocked out, getting up again and then potentially knocked out again?

Just get them back in the Fellowship phase, new mounts or the old ones, whichever makes narrative sense.
