Stelline Scans

Mon 20 Jun 2022, 16:49

Perhaps a nitpick, but in reference to Stelline Scans, (a non-invasive method of reviewing an N-9’s core memory implants) which are referenced in the Core Rulebook.

Ana Stelline was born 6-10-21, making her, at the time of BR2049, roughly 28 years old. If we work backwards to the time of the game (2037), that would make her around 16 years old (give or take a year).

Ok, let's say she was a child prodigy in the area of creating artificial memories - quite possible. Her work led to the creation, and naming, of these scans. Fair enough.

Unlikely though that at 16 the Stelline Laboratory (as depicted in BR2049) would exist in 2037.

I'd be interested in hearing people's work-arounds for this. Maybe she was "adopted" by the Stelline family who were already in the memory making business and she's just following in the footsteps of her mother/father?

Stelline is not Ana's own name, of course (her being Deckard and Rachael's offspring). We know she does get adopted, so it might, as you say, be her adoptive parents' name (who then also would own the lab), but that's not strictly necessary either — we also know her adoptive parents move off-world.

I'd say that one way or another, she gets her surname from the lab where she's sequestered (presumably by her adoptive parents), not the other way around.

Thus, the lab might well exist in 2037 and Ana may not unlikely already be there, as she's had to live in isolation from age 8. Could be she has lived in the same sterile chamber ever since.

For that matter, the lab may already exist in 2019.

And that also means the scanning method would be developed by the lab, not by Ana — which should resolve any need for overly contrived rationalisations.
