Page 96m Climate panel, right hand column, paragraph 1
"People would line up for days
to see and smell a real tree, and one branch could buy a
visa off-world. Only makes visiting the suites more painful,
as they tout wealth with wooden furniture worth
more than your pension fund."
Should be -
People would line up for days
to see and smell a real tree, and one branch could buy a
visa off-world. It only makes visiting the suites more painful,
as they tout wealth with wooden furniture worth
more than your pension fund.

111, Home sweet home: “cook-ie-cutter”
Expecting ‘cookie-cutter’

101, Advertising: “It can be overwhelming, even violating at first for the young or the refugees new to the city. […] It can be overwhelming, even violating at first for those new to the city.”
Expecting: repetition, and the first sentence doesn’t make sense - the young grow up to get accustomed to their environment, so they wouldn’t really feel anything of the sort. Delete first sentence.

???, Law & Order In the Corp[…]: “The UN doesn’t have the reach or resources to truly govern the entire system, let alone Earth.”
Expecting: “The UN doesn’t have the reach or the resources to truly govern Earth, let alone the entire system.”

114, Hawker’s Circle: “Your first and last stop for anything you need or anyone who doesn’t want to be found: illegal or stolen goods, skins and counterfeiters, forgeries, mercenaries, fugitives, even the Underground. “
‘Underground’ here doesn’t mean anything to me. (It’s explained on 117)

In the original Blade Runner's trailer, it was stated the population of LA was 106 million. The Fail section on this page advises the population is around 30 million. Inconsistency?

SYNTHETICS

This term is considered derogatory. They prefer themselves to be referred to by the term "artificial persons".

On a slightly different note though:

In order to try to clarify the editorial intent here, as pertains to certain other content in this chapter (eg. p.96) — aren't we trying to steer clear of real-world political commentary?

p.103, first paragraph:

Only the wealthier Sectors sell off-world emigration dreams, premium goods, and luxuries. The poorer districts aren’t offered the chance to begin again

In the 2019 period, when they still had blimps (I can miss those, though ... such an iconic part of the ambience) they blasted out the "A NEW LIFE AWAITS YOU...!" advertising literally all over the city, over the haves as well as the have-nots.

Obviously something has fundamentally changed in the meanwhile, as this particular marketing message now is differentiated by socioeconomic demographies in a way it wasn't two decades earlier.

It feels to me like the history ought to say something about what this change is, as it does seem like a bit of a biggie.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't blimps been retired by this time period? While blimps are a city wide advert, I think advertising in later decades is much more personalized. They even make it a point to talk about how creepy it is that marketing seems to know more about you than you do. That being said, since it's possible to pass the test and then be granted off world access by essentially indentured servitude, that kind of off world advert technically still applies ... until you realize that Nexus 9s are now a thing, can do that manual labor for much longer hours every day, and don't complain. It's possible corporations can look at the poor human masses and go "Nah, we don't need you anymore". Which, of course, in turn fuels even more anti-Replicant sentiment.

Page 117 in the breakdown for Sector 9 in the section for Retirement Row, it states "The LA Viaduct, a derelict bridge that collapsed after an earthquake decades ago, is the anarchic capital of the Kipple and their fisher kings." On the map, the LA Viaduct is sandwiched right before Sector 4 and Sector 2, nowhere near Sector 9, and on the zoom-out insert The Kipple is shown to be to the far east side of the map out toward San Bernadino. So why is The LA Viaduct being talked about as if it's in Retirement Row, and how is it the capital of The Kipple if it's miles away from where The Kipple is shown on the map? Having The Kipple be anywhere near downtown LA doesn't make any sense if there's meant to be 19 districts as that shrinks the city far too much.

Pg 101

"Religion is even found among Reps with closeted obsessions with souls and a reason for being."

Use of with twice, separated only by two words, which might trip a reader up. Consider instead:

"Religion is even found among Reps with closeted obsessions about souls and a reason for being."

Or:

"Religion is even found among Reps suffering closeted obsessions with souls and a reason for being."

"Everywhere you look is someone in dire need of aid or a punch in the face."

This feels clunky. What about:

""Everywhere you look, there's someone in dire need of aid or a punch in the face."
