Songs by Serafina

Mon 21 Feb 2022, 19:23

We have an Elvenspring minstrel in our group by the name of Serafina. She often greets new people with the phrase, "Hello! I'm Serafina, perhaps you've heard of me?!"

The player of this character has been writing actual songs for the game. I'll post some here and if it is liked I'll will continue to do so as the songs come out.

This first one was written based on the impressions the player got from the Player's Handbook and was ready on our first game session. Enjoy.
Sung to the slightly modified tune of Rún by SKÁLD.

Ravenlands
Wind and whispers call out to me
With a silent longing to be
Free to wander, wandering free
Beyond what I see

There’s a path that’s leading me there
And a heart with courage to dare
Making my way with a drum in my hand
Through the Ravenlands

Wind and whispers I will abide
On a path with friends at my side
Journeying onward, adventuring free
Who knows what we’ll see?

There’s a path that’s leading us there
Faithful hearts with courage to spare
Meeting each day, as the challenge demands
Through the Ravenlands

Winds and whispers call out to me
They’re calling to me….

Here is the song based on a certain encounter with an aeronaut.

Beneath a Tree -
The Tale of the Dwarf

Beneath a tree, we spied some silk
And an injured man of Dwarven ilk
A closer look brought such a sight
Of chaos drawn from a stormy night

A basket shone neath a balloon
And bottles o’er the ground were strewn
Careful we stepped, near toward the man
To offer aid, how ere we can

Chorus:
Storms may sunder the peace of day
Night and Thunder lead us astray
Morning leads us, to hope anew
If our deeds are well-meant and true

He yelled to us, “Don’t ye come near!
You see I have six crossbows here!”
He was afeared we meant him wrong
So I played a tender song

And Kalde the Rider, brave and true
Said, “I’ve just come to heal you.”
His leg was set, fixed his balloon
And he was on his way by noon

Chorus:

And so you see battle and strife
Needn’t be the way of life
Sometimes we find affinity
As lessons learned beneath a tree

Final Chorus

This is a song based on a small dungeon site the group encountered to the tune of Diamands and Rust by Joan Baez

Ashes and Dust

Traveling on
To the Maw of the Scaled One
An unfinished temple we found
Tools and dead on the ground
Stink of rotting and must

The cult was betrayed
And the black robed Stremlig, he raised
The remains of the cultists he knew
But not the traitor who
Was an agent of Rust

Then Erinar
As skeletons rose from the floor
Bid the rattling bones to come near
And casting his spell without fear
Turned them, ashes and dust

The tale is true
As a warning we share it with you
Beware of the danger unknown
unless you rove with a slayer of bone,
A hero you trust

When the group reached The Hollows, Serafina had this song ready to perform at Dead Man's Hand Tavern.

The Ale Song
And now (crowd repeat)
And now (crowd repeat)
We came to find this town
And now (crowd repeat)
And now (crowd repeat)
We’re here to settle down
For a minute, Or a day, Or a week
We just can’t say
For now (crowd repeat)
For now (crowd repeat)
The Hollows is our town

For now (crowd repeat)
For now (crowd repeat)
For now we share our tales
We laugh and play and drink our hearty ale
We know not what the day will bring (slow)
So we drink and dance and sing
For we breathe the breath of life
So let go of fear and strife
And now (crowd repeat)
And now (crowd repeat)
And now we drink our ale (raise a glass!)

Serafina wrote this one the day after experiencing her first night in The Hollows.

In the Moonlight

I sit by a stream and wonder how
The sun ripples on the water now
When the night before a ghostly play
Is unreal in the light of day

And we danced in the moonlight
Among the ruins
To the playing of
Some ghostly tunes
For those in the mist
And for the slain
For innocents lost
And who remain

A poor little girl long surely dead
The horror of battle in her head
Sought to make us play a game
That repeats the terror of the same

As the battle play came to an end
She was satisfied with our pretend
And asked if we could brush her hair
Then faded into gray mist there

And we danced in the moonlight
Among the ruins
To the playing of
Some ghostly tunes
And now I sit beside a stream
And wonder if it was a dream

Serafina wrote this one about Mrs. Pollmor hoping to smooth over some political infighting.

The Lady

Look up, Look up On top of the hill
The lady watches o’er us still
Alone she gazes over the town
Keeps us safe when troubles abound

Pay her well
Pay her well
With coin and respect
When the time comes round
For her to collect

Look around, Look around
The well, and the wall
The temple, the river, the wharf and all
The graveyard beyond, the market stalls
Without her help, The Hollows falls

Pay her well
Pay her well
When she comes to collect
For it’s you and yours
She’s here to protect

And another song hoping to mollify some more fiery tempers.

Yawim’s Place

Raise a glass
Raise a glass
To the best beer in town
Deserving of another round

Three skulls is the place
If you’re looking for fun
Brew, food, and laughter for everyone

Drink up, Drink up
You worked hard for your pay
It’s Yawim’s place
At the end of the day

Raise a glass, Raise a glass
To the one walking in
With a bear on his shoulders,
A victorious grin

He brings in his catch
To share precious meat
Grimnir of the hunt
Cooks up bear stew to eat

Drink up, Drink up
You worked hard for your pay
It’s Yawim’s place
At the end of the day

Re: Songs by Serafina

Serafina was very troubled by a street urchin she met in The Hollows. This is her song about him.
Not a dry eye at our table when this song was performed.

Little Boy

In the sunlight of day
O’er the bridge we walked
And met a young boy
Unable to talk

And he put out his hand
To offer a bird
Drawing gifts from his pocket
Without a word

The bird was dead
So, I chose a stone
From his other hand
Was he truly alone?

Oh, where is your kin
Little boy with a face
Of aching affliction
Do you wander this place?

So, I asked around town
About the boy well met
But scant information
Was all I would get

To discover his story
I followed his route
As I tried to discern what
This trauma’s about

In the end I learned
of the terrible tale
Of a ghostly disturbance
And a painful travail

Who knows what you saw,
So young and so frail
When your parents were taken?
Yet, your kindness prevails

And you run through the graveyard
Without any fear
The place where it happened
Not shedding a tear

But the tears reach my eyes
As I ponder your fate
Is there a way I can help you?
Or already too late?

Is your life in need
Of a healing grace?
Did you suffer a wound
Too deep to erase?

My companions are healers
And I have my song
And a hope, that we can
Make right, what is wrong

With that hope in my heart
And your stone held nearby
I’ll find help where I may
At least I can try

This is a song that Serafina wrote upon her group's survival of Weatherstone. it contains spoilers so I'm marking it as such. I couldn't figure out how to mark this with a spoiler box so going old school.

---------------------------SPOILER ALERT FOR WEATHERSTONE AND NPCs--------------------------------------------------------

Yellow Eyes

Beware the Yellow Eyes
Disguised as woman, beast, or man
Behind them lies an evil
To turn away from, if you can

Unknown to us it called
And drew us with a song
Feigned friendship round a fire
Lured us to the undead throng

Beware the Yellow Eyes
Beware the Yellow Eyes

By wits and by our courage
We brisked through threats undead
To highest tower King Algarod
Lie spellbound on his bed

We broke the evil curse
That held him in a state
And the animated King shouted
“Free!” and sat up straight

He cursed the name of Merigall
The one who sent us there
And when he damned it from the tower
Its form dispersed in air

Beware the Yellow Eyes
Beware the Yellow Eyes

Then he charged us with a quest
To serve the greater good
And kneeling there he dubbed us knights
For our promise that we would

King Algarod revealed
Before his final rest,
The creature is a demon
An ancient power, manifest

So, beware the Yellow Eyes
It may attack or aid
Its vile goal toward ruin
An evil plan well laid

Beware the Yellow Eyes
Beware the Yellow Eyes
Beware the Yellow Eyes

(This to the tune we heard
the foul creature sing -
on the day we met the King)
