Anti Tank Rocket Launcher Indoor

Hello,

I am not a specialist of thing, yet I have read that for most ATRL it is impossible to fire indoor unless specified otherwise.

I suppose this is the same thing for TOW even for some canon.

Do you have any rationale for that?

The reason is the back-blast reflecting off walls back to the firer and anyone in the room. Should probably be treated as an explosion. [EDIT] As a referee you could allow it but tell the players that the back-blast from the weapon fills the room with dust (treat as Smoke) and they need to make CUF checks to avoid being suppressed.

There are also several weapons with reduced backblast made to be fired from enclosed spaces, such as the AT4 CS and the Panzerfaust 3.

Also note the difference between recoilless (countermass) weapons and rocket launchers. The propulsion principle and thus also the backblast phenomenon differ.

Indeed, there are large differences. The problem is that the lines blur, e. g. the SPG-9, a widely used Soviet-made recoilless rifle, only has a small charge eject the warhead around 20 m downrange, at which point a booster rocket will kick in. Unfortunately, recoilless rifles aren't covered in the base game at all, though they're likely to become extremely important during the Twilight War, because of their ease of production; both for the weapon system and for ammunition.

Once tier one tanks - especially those with composite and/or explosive reactive armor and the newest generation of night vision devices and three-axis stabilization - are destroyed, armored warfare goes back to the level of the 1960s⁠—drive⁠, stop⁠, aim, fire⁠, scoot. At that point, recoilless rifles loose their inherent setbacks of lower range, lower precision, lack of post-launch course correction and inferior optics; the latter of which they only had since they were phased out of tier one TO&Es, because ATGMs developed anew were better in all other regards as well. But in a low intensity conflict, tinkering a Milan optic onto a M40 barrel should be doable, if you have the batteries for it to work.

It's called 'backblast'.... A rocket it not like a bullet. The propellant isn't contained in a cartridge, but is fired out the back of the launch tube. With most rocket launchers, there is enough backblast to set the building you're in on fire, blow out a back wall, and in some cases bring the whole building down on your head. And that's not even getting into what it would do to your hearing or your lungs by breathing in the ignited propellant.
In other words, DON'T.

The difference between antitank missiles and rockets:
- the rocket burns all fuel once (black powder etc. powdered explosive) when shot, to take the grenade to the distant.
- the missile (at least TOW) uses only a small amount of fuel to exit the launching tube and fly the first ~100 meters, then it starts to consume the fuel evenly during the flight until it reachs the target (or runs out of fuel).

TOW could be launched from indoors, but there needs to be 15-20 meters free space behind the launching tube to avoid the pressure hurting the crew.

Some smaller rocket launchers, like LAW could be launched indoors if you have free space behind, but for instance the manufacturer of Apilas asked if we are insane to even thinking to launching it indoors.

Recoilles rifles commonly must have 30+ meters free space behind, wouldn't launch inside.

The difference between rockets and missiles is the presence of a guidance system. Everything else is just weaponeering.

Yes and no. A projectile is hardly steerable if all fuel is used at once during the launch. When we take this to the context - year 2000 and 2nd generation ATGM systems in the game - both Soviet (Fagot and Spigot) and US (TOW, TOW2) systems use only a small amount of fuel during the launch, rest during the next 10-20 seconds of flight.

Sorry if this was stated or you already know, but the AT4 CS was designed in the 2020s (perhaps as early as 2018) and so might be outside the scope of a standard T2000 game. PzF III is a better option, being at least issued to the Bundeswehr in 1987.
