Waylaying

Sun 30 May 2021, 20:28

I can't find what happens after a successful waylay. Does the combatants that lie in wait automatically get the #1 initiative card? (In other FL-games a successful waylay usually involve some sort of extra action).
Please clarify what, according to the rules, a successful waylay results in.

Ambush in this game (called Sneak attacks in most other YZE-games) is normally when you move to a position that you want to be in and then attacks the hopefully unaware target. In this case you will get the #1 init card (as well as some other bonuses sometimes). This can be done with a group. In this case the person with the lowest Stealth roll (he is the most likely person to fail). If the group ambush succeeds, the group gets the top init cards (they can distribute them how they see fit). So if there are four attackers, you get cards #1 to #4.

Waylay is also an ambush so it follows the same rules but instead of you moving, you wait for the enemy to move to you. If you (and your group, if any) succeeds, you will take the top init cards (as the example above).

Page 60 and 61. If it is a single person, then you get the #1 initiative card. If its a group ambush, each member of the group gets a card, given out in numerical order, before anyone in the opposing group gets one. There is no surprise round.
