Newsletter? || 2d6-System instead of Pool?

Heard that the first newsletter is out, could some post the link to the browser view?

Someone mentioned that FL and MM are thinking about using 2d6 instead of the pool mechanic.

Might be a good decision to get the original feeling, but is the YZ-System really a YZ-System without its fundamental core mechanic?
That´s not bad in itself but than one don´t need the YZ label.

NilsK from FL said on the discord:

We're testing a variant system with a different dice resolution mechanism (still the same core)
its influenced by the polydice introduced in FBL

and on the question if this means that you get "bigger" dice instead of more dice he said:

yes bigger dice, the idea is to reduce dice pool size

Two bigger dice? Okay, thanks ;) not my Setting, but sounds interesting.

Interesting... Makes me think of FFG's Star Wars, where yellows are for the lower or att or skill, and greens the difference of att and skill...

Right, but the Star Wars Dice have a very unintuitive distribution of probabilities due to their sizes and colors. :)

I was speaking of the pool size calculation, not the distribution on the faces.

D8's in Forbidden Lands are 6-7 = 1S and 8=2S.

A single FL d8 has an expected number of successes of 0.5 per die (0+0+0+0+0+1+1+2)/8=4/8.
Normal d6's in FL have the usual 1/6 expected... so a d8 is equivalent to 3d6 in expected result
Now, the range is only 0-2, where 3d6 would be 0-3.

Using the process of lower of at or skill = #d8, and difference between them = #d6, with FL's d8 and d6 values... that's a bump I'll have to try in Alien at some point. would give a big bump to skills in terms of reliable results.

Even if they use larger dice/smaller pools, I hope they change their mind and keep the dice pool mechanic. I find it extremely fun, and while I enjoy 2dX games like Powered by the Apocalypse or 2d20 well enough I always find myself missing the handful of dice. It's been a while since I've had the pleasure of running a Fria Ligan game, and I feel like this is one I could sell my players on. (We had a good Coriolis campaign going, but when we lost half our players to schedule conflicts we didn't have enough people to crew a ship.)
