Hadley's Hope Blueprints

Sun 02 Jun 2019, 20:23

Found these a while ago and now linking the site so people can possibly make a game of Alien RPG on Hadley's Hope after Alien but before Aliens.

Being a colonist during that period would have been stressful...

Great find!
Not sure if I'll ever use it but I live for this kind of stuff.
Thanks!

The taster sessions we ran for Free League at UK Games Expo were set in Hadley’s Hope and they made us some lovely maps for that. They like the adventures so much they they are think about publishing them, so they may be some “official” maps in the future.

Nice!

Would you have any pictures of them? What kind of sessions were going on?

Check out this tweet for a decent pic
https://twitter.com/TheCoriolisCast/sta ... 11808?s=20

We created 90 minute sessions, that were each one of three third acts. Together they are Last Hopes - three vignettes from LV426. In Hope’s Last Hand a group try to rob the casino amidst the chaos of the early stage infestation, avoiding rumoured ”snakes” and the civil marshals. In Hope’s Last Dance, the Union Band caught unawares by the lockdown try to escape, and in Hope’s Last Stand, the civil marshals must repair and activate the emergency beacon, while being hunted by the alien swarm

Zooming in I can see the similarities and differences. They are much more developed and would be great for play.
How did the scenarios go? What were some highlights?

Very well! everybody (bar perhaps one player among the 52 who got a to play) enjoyed it. As ever each time each scenario was run, the players did different things. As GMs Dave and I were entertained as much as the players. Did you see our recordings of an early playtest of one of the adventures?: https://www.effektpodcast.org/episodes/ ... and-part-1

It’s a three part adventure.

There may be more. In creating the ACTUAL Xenomorph stats for UKGE, we appear to have saved Free League some work. We took the 14 sessions we ran over the weekend as a sort of playtest, and Dave has amended some of the stats and attacks. (In my last game for instance, what might have been a climatic battle fell a bit flat because the alien kept rolling an ineffectual attack). Now we need to play test them again. So Dave is running a “bug hunt” session next week, to work the revised stats (and the Queen, which didn’t make an appearance in the con scenarios).  We’ll publish that recording too.

Also look up VCG gaming on YouTube, Dave will be running an adventure for then this weekend which will be streamed.

Blueprints/maps of a colony like Hadley’s Hope are actually pretty useful beyond revisiting a film location. It’s unlikely that profit minded Weyland Yutani would design different facilities for each terraforming colony. Those “reliable” prefabricated buildings and even the “proven” layout would probably be the same across many colonies when initially set up. After a few years some individuality would emerge as the colony grew, but the core complex would be pretty familiar if you had grown up in one.

You could even swap out the atmospheric processor and drop in some laboratories and some other support hangers and you have a standard Weyland Yutani research facility. Corporate bean counters wouldn’t want to pay architects to do a new plan for each colony as it would cut too far into the bottom line.

Edit-

I just had a fun idea, it would be really cool to do a Map supplement that was an in universe Weyland Yutani sales catalogue. Why Weyland Yutani is the atmospheric processor of choice across the middle heavens. Our orbital transfer station is the cargo and freight handling facility of choice even in the UPP etc.
