Critical Successes

Hullo, folks,
A quick question about Critical Successes...
As explained on page 54, under Skills, a Critical Success is when the player rolls three 6s on the dice. Is this on top of the one success required to succeed at the task, as is usual in Combat, or does the Critical work slightly differently outside of combat?
Thanks, in advance.

Hi,
There's a chart on the next page that indicates 1 or 2 sixes rolled count as limited success while 3+ is a critical. As I understand it, that means it operates slightly different from the combat rules in that you only need 3 sixes total.

yea its awesome there are explonations for critical successes inside description of each skill (page 60 forwards) and in manipulation you can basically go to a bulk hauler owner and as if you can have his ship and if you get critical success he gives it to you free just cause you gave such nice arguments (and looked cute doing so) Ok getting to that point might be difficult as it is opposed roll and there might be lots of variables going in (he might have higher reputation than your starting out character....) but it _can_ be done go for crit!

Yes, the weapon crit ratings indicate how many extra successes you need to roll beyond the first to reach a crit, whereas the general critical success requires three successes in total. The difference in description here is because in combat, extra successes can be spent on several different bonus effects - not only crits.

Hullo, Tomas,
Thanks for clarifying the difference in terms of extra successes and how they work in combat versus during general situations. I was a bit confused on this score because of how the rules were phrased in different place, but this is how I've run the game for the five or so sessions of CORIOLIS that I've played. So, all is good.
But nice to get confirmation on this.
