Using the Operations from Replicant Rebellion as a continuation to the first two case files of the Immortal Game

Hi all.
Warning: long post. You can skip over the first part if you don’t want to read all and go directly to part 2.
I’ve run the two first case files from the Immortal Game Campaign, with Novak and Fenna as PCs, and I’m wondering if and how to adapt the Operations from Replicant Rebellion to continue the campaign while we wait eagerly for case file #3.
Part 1
During case file #1:
- Fenna, after stopping Styles from fleeing outside the Snake Pit (she crit on him in hand-to-hand combat! Vox aleae, vox Dei!), and making him talk to her about Leah, let him go and did not report him.
- Novak, after having been sent by a contact to the Bright Beauty Salon, as he wanted to check if Leah had tried to change her appearance, let go Seraphine despite identifying her as a Sympathizer to the Replicant Underground.
- Novak decided not to arrest nor to report the Aurelian after visiting his shop and having also identified him as a rep.
In all these three situations, Fenna and Novak reasoned that the reps had not committed serious crimes, and that they could be more useful to them in the streets as contacts or informers.
- Finally, Novak and Fenna arrested Styles and brought him in at the LAPD after he attacked them with other reps outside the Aurelian’s shop. Styles was transported to the LA General Hospital as he had been shot upon by the Blade Runners (after he had wounded Novak). When his arrestation was known through the department, Novak’s key relationship, Remy Krumpack, warned him, for “old time’s sake”, that many were unhappy about this situation and that Novak had resumed his old knack for getting in troubles by playing the good cop role. The day after his arrest, Styles escaped his hospital room, probably with outside help, because the guard posted outside his room was attacked and this was caught on camera, but the other cameras were inexplicably turned off or aside for the rest of his escape outside the hospital. The case was given to Krumpack by Holden.
During case file #2:
- After having received a vid-phone call during a shift of downtime from her key relationship, Radha Udaya, during which she said in a stressed tone “I found the missing ones. They are kidnapped in the streets. They noticed me. I can’t stay--”, Fenna took a shift to investigate her disappearance. She used the RDU resources to track the vid-phone call to a public booth in the Red Lights District in sector 1. Using the Vesper Walls, she managed to see Radha’s silhouette while she was using the vid-phone and spotted several dark silhouettes on the other side of the street, under the red neon light of the Kill Magazine building. Going there, she interrogated the “shopkeeper” of a nearby shop with women and men dancing almost naked behind shop windows (just like in the Red Lights District in Amsterdam). He was extremely reluctant to talk, so Fenna flashed her badge on him and crit on a Manipulation roll. He admitted that he had recognized one the men who grabbed the woman, thanks to his facial tattoos, as a member of the Russian mafia that he had bumped into in different nightclubs in sector 1.
- Novak went to the Bright Lights Beauty Salon just in time to prevent Seraphine from being murdered by “McCoy”. Arresting her, he didn’t bring her to the LAPD and contacted Krumpack to ask him to hide her, explaining that she was not safe at the LAPD. Krumpack agreed and hid her in a derelict warehouse (against a future service). Once “McCoy” was neutralized, he freed Seraphine after she agreed to talk to him.
- Novak paid the Aurelian a new visit and, again, did not report or arrest him.
- Novak and Fenna went to the Hermosa Beach Pier outside the Sea Wall. They confronted “Novak” but did not arrest him and let him go. They didn’t mention their going to the Pier in their report.
- During the final confrontation, Fenna managed to prevent Lilith Tyrrel from fleeing and to surreptitiously get hold of the memory sphere with the data on replicants. Wallace saw her doing this, alluded to it, but let her go nonetheless.
So, as you can see, the characters are now in a moral grey zone. Fenna is troubled by what happened during the final confrontation at Wallace and by the fact that she is under the impression that the RDU does nothing to find Radha Udaya.
Part 2
With that in mind, I think that I can use the Operations from Replicant Rebellion as a continuation to the Immortal Game (though I hope it won’t prevent me to run Case File #3 when it finally comes out).
To do this, I hesitate between two possibilities.
Possibility #1: I jump straight to Operation #2 Search and Seizure, with Fenna continuing her investigation on Radha’s disappearance and Novak tagging along, as they have developed a friendship bond, especially after Fenna saved his life when Vale attacked him in the opening scene in case File #2. As you may have seen, I’ve already introduced elements tied-in to this Operation in Fenna’s key relationship. The problem will be the order of the other Operations. Perhaps it would make sense to then play Operation #3 but if the characters are still Blade Runners, if it will be much easier for them, I think. And then Operations #1, #4 and #5. But at what point will they turn rebels, if they do?
Possibility #2: I run the Operations in their intended order. In Operation #1, the PCs are tasked to accompany Marlowe to escort Freysa to the LA Courthouse and are in the transport with them. When the ambush takes place, and the doors of the transport are blasted open, the rebels spare them as Styles is leading them. They bring them to the Warehouse as prisoners. Then, what happens remains to be seen but Styles may free them if they say they will help.
What do you think? Did you attempt to use the Operations from Replicant Rebellion as a continuation of the two first case files as I’m considering? What did you do?
