I currently have all the physical books and box sets for The One Ring, and a couple of the PDFs. I am quite familiar with D&D Beyond (I use it almost daily). On D&D Beyond, we can either purchase the Physical Book, the Digital rights (not the PDF), or both. I can then share the rights to my Digital versions with all of my players once I have them join an adventure/campaign that I have created as their Dungeon Master (Loremaster). In D&D Beyond, at no time during character creation or during an adventure/campaign do I need the PDF to be shared with my players since I do not need them reading through the adventure they will be in. So, my question is: In Unbound, what is the need between purchasing just the Digital version/rights to a book versus needing to have the PDF too? Can the players, through their free accounts, have full access to my purchased digital rights in Unbound? And if they do, will anything be kept from me or them in the Unbound system if I have not also purchased the PDF too?

Apologies, but I am confused as there seems to be no detailed description of what the Digital Version offers and if there is a necessity to also purchase the PDF if I already own the physical books. Thanks for any help or insight on this!

If you are familiar with DDB, then you're going to recognize how Unbound will work once it is fully launched. Right now in the initial Early Access phase, two core features - the Digital Reader and Game Compendium - are available for the first four games (ALIEN, The One Ring, Coriolis: The Great Dark, and Invincible).

The third (and largest) core feature is Character Tools - a step-by-step character builder and interactive digital character sheet. This feature isn't released yet, but it will be introduced into Early Access for at least the first game before the end of the year. Content sharing will also be introduced alongside or around the same time. Content sharing will be similar to the digital offerings for other games, but better (from a customer point of view).

Unbound includes the ability to access PDFs for those who like having them, but if you prefer the digital tools version of the content, you might not need the PDF.

We'll share the full details of both the character tools, content sharing, and what your players can do with free accounts as we get to the full launch - which isn't going to be too long from now.

Thanks BadEyeAdam. I can see where possibly having the online reader could be good, but if the digital product (lets use TOR "Tales From The Lone Lands" as an example) has been purchased by me, then it sound like I have a full digital version of that book to read solely within Unbound (I cannot download it and read it offline or outside of Unbound), but then also gain the rights to everything within that product to use for character creation, maps, and for possibly running an adventure from within Unbound.

The only reason I see for having the PDF too would be so that I could either read it within Unbound or download it and read it offline. If I have the physical book though, this may not be necessary.

I am going to purchase the full TOR package of digital rights, and hold off for now on adding the PDF until I truly see a need for them too as a LoreMaster running an adventure.
