Is Witch hunters 6th level feature useless?

Witch hunter is a hunter approach (this is beside the point but witch hunter probaly should be a scoundrel) that gains a lot of rituals from the theurg list. However, at 6th level they gain this feature.

Deadly Need
Starting at 6th level you have learned enough of the sorcerous arts that, if pressed, you can cast a spell at need. You can
cast one of the spells you know as a non-ritual spell but you
gain twice the normal Corruption since your understanding
of the magical arts is limited.

This seems next to worthless, considering all of your spells are rituals which by their defenition are utility spells. So, besides maybe silence I don't see any use in casting them normaly seems very niche. And making it so you double the corruption seems so crippling that you would probaly never want to use it either (as you will have a lot of permenant corruption from your rituals, that amount of corruption would probaly risk a mark of corruption of fuck you up if you fought a abomination.

I'm I misreading something or is the feature as useless as I think? How would you suggest fixing it?. My only solution would be allowing you to take limited amount of theurg spells to be able to use this feature with. Or make it so any spell you cast with it is a action or even bonus action (like your taking doulbe corruption on a low thresold character, throw them a bone)
