Shards and value

I just finished my first Outcast play-through, and had a good time! In the end I found 6 high quality shards on a Class 1 delve. On page 262 of the CRB, it says shards have a value between 50-250 rukh, depending on their quality.

Is there a more definitive explanation of how much shards can be sold for? Is it up to a roll, or a table I've missed somewhere?

Also, there's an Artifact Scanner listed in the Equipment section (page 104)... what analysis does it provide? How does it work? I wasn't able to find anything else about it.

Hello
I don’t believe there’s a hidden table you missed. If it’s not referenced elsewhere, it probably doesn’t exist. The shard price range is likely the whole mechanic.
Same thing with the scanner, if no expanded rules are given, it’s probably meant as a narrative permission tool rather than a crunchy subsystem.

Not sure on shards, I think that is just a range that the GM can work from.

IRT the Artifact Scanner, it would provide a gear bonus to the roll to understand an artifact (p. 263)

I just used D6 x 50 x number of shards (which can give 300 per shard, but I was happy with that).
