It would seem that, in light of J.R.R. Tolkien's poem "Scatha the Worm"*, the entries on Cold-drakes (from TOR 1e) should be revised. Firstly, Scatha himself is identified in the poem as a Cold-drake rather than a Long-worm (perhaps the ability Poison Blast should be given instead to the Long-worms, though a Venomous Bite might be more appropriate). Tolkien here also clarifies the abilities of the Cold-drakes. They should not spit poison but rather be able to freeze their foes with either fear (Mesmerize) or their icy breath, as in these excerpts:
"Some have great wings like the wind
Some have fire and fierce wrath,
Some have venom on their long teeth
Some have hides like armour, tails
like steel, tongues like spears, eyes
piercing bright: some are great & golden
Some are green; some are red as
glowing iron. Not so was Scatha."
"He crawled
like a slow creeping death, too
horrible to flee from, froze Men with
fear and his icy breath, and then
crushed them, ground them, under
his long white belly."
Also, Scatha was himself blind, and could reportedly smell gold.
