Thu 01 Aug 2024, 21:53

So have you seen the kickstarter notification for 2nd edition rules for Alien?

Yeah...And Im not thrilled about it if it means big changes that make the current sourcebooks "out of date".
Of course the lore and setting information is still there but if they change the rules even slightly it can throw of the validity of current releases.
Hopefully its not big rules changes though so everything can be used with everything, new and old.

Personally I would have been much happier with a "revised" core book and starter, that wouldnt have stung my ego as much.

Yeah, I'm not super-thrilled about having to pay full price for an updated version of what I already own.

Honestly, it's this kind of stuff that got me off DnD and Warhammer 40k... smells corporate to me...

Not looking forward to having to buy new core rulebooks every few years just because they've "updated" them somehow.

Colour me skeptical.

lol I LITERALLY just bought all the books and boxes last month or so, just my luck. I wonder what that will mean for modules in Foundry as well, I was just thinking of putting a game together in there.

Super unhappy about this, I'd much rather have new sourcebooks.

More ALIEN and people are unhappy? Weird!

The kickstarter notice I read looks awesome.

Cleaning up existing game to make it newcomer friendlier (but really Year Zero Engine is already pretty dang approachable).

Streamlining and polish.

Fully backwards compatible.

New adventure and updated Hope's Last (would be awesome if all of the Hopes Last were assembled into the big enchilada)

New art.

*MINIS*

I am not hearing a lot of breakage or double-dipping here - I am hearing "okay we're ready to amp this up some more" and put more time and effort into an already kick butt game.

So, color me excited and ready to pledge on the kickstarter now.

Not sure why people aren't excited by this.

EDIT: Well after a trip to the fridgey maybe I get some of it - Wizards burned a lot of bridges and yes there's a history of RPGs going pear shaped in editions.

Everything I've seen from Free League so far hasn't been that vibe for me tho - it still looks like gamers making games for more gamers - with the occasional "oh man something went wrong on the business side we're not so good at because we were busy gaming."

So, not trying to gaslight anyone or invalidate honest and earned feelings - please don't read me like that.

I didn't know about the KS until I saw this forum thread - then I went looking for the email and the mail I read didn't square with the thread here - that's all I was reacting to.

I've not been trampled or burned by FL and hope I never am - I've just been extremely taken with the game series I've bought into and hope this is all about *more and better* ALIEN ... gimme gimme gimme

Hi! All existing expansions will be compatible with the new edition, and you will even be able to play the new edition expansions with the first edition rules. The first edition will be 6 years old when the new edition comes out, and having learned a lot and gotten a lot of great feedback during those years, we feel that the time is right for a new edition, to update and streamline the rules and add new features. I won't break the existing game.

Well, I am very stoked about this myself!

I know people, like Lambert, like to gripe, but it is weird that y'all don't read the information before complaining. Just sayin'

Can't wait for an updated version of Alien RPG and the Rapture Protocol scenario! <3

Does it need a 2nd Edition though? The rules are already pretty light and streamlined, will be interesting to see what gets changed.

If an expanded Hope's Last Day is going into the Starter Set, will there be a new scenario added to the 2E core rulebook?

Was Rapture Protocols originally intended to be the scenario that would have led to the Space Truckers book release? And does this mean we'll now get the Space Truckers book as the first 2E big book release? I'm hoping we don't just see new versions of Colonial Marines and Building Better Worlds, would prefer to just see some of that content rolled into the 2E core book - are the 1E releases staying in print?

Mixed feelings, but yeah, I'll be backing the Kickstarter regardless, because the stuff released so far has been class.

I wonder what the changes will be. Feels like it could be a blog post of changes for people who already own all the previous games ... maybe??
