D&D Basic Rules - are they being revised?

Thu 18 Jul 2024, 22:07

Will the new revisions to Dungeons &Dragons 5E affect the D&D Basic Rules and the System Reference Document (SRD)? And how might that impact The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying? Do we have any idea yet?

I think the changes will be minimal. The new rules set appears to have a large bulk of changes in character creation -- for example, stat bonuses will be a part of the background instead of ancestry/race. LotRR doesn't need to change at all, since this game is pretty much self-contained and doesn't rely on a player looking something up in a WotC book.

Later editions of LotRR may feature some slight adjustments if the revised rules contain anything interesting. For example, in the new PH drinking a healing potion becomes a bonus action instead of a regular action. Again, minimal and may have negligible effect on a LotRR campaign.

Fell in love with Tales from The Loop, Vaesen, 5E LotRR ... Now hooked on Dragonbane, which still should be called Drakar och Demoner IMO. Played OD&D since 1975..
