rules for swimming

Sat 30 Sep 2023, 19:03

Hello,
I couldn't find (or missed) rules for swimming in the core edition.
Unless i'm mistaken, the 2nd zone compendiums assumes evrerybody swims perfectly, and only requires roll if underwater.
I find it unrealistic that everybody swims perfectly for an indefinite time (with gear on, and, possibly wounded, or while being attacked by rot fishes).
How do you guys do it ?
Thx !

You could use the Year Zero Engine SRD 1.0 as a basis:

A "stretch" is 5-10 minutes.
DROWNING
All PCs are assumed to know how to swim.
If you end up in water, you need to make a Stamina roll every stretch to stay afloat.
If you wear metal armor, you sink.
Under water, you need to make a Stamina roll every round to hold your breath.
If you fail, you start to drown and suffer one point of damage to Strength every round until someone saves you.
If you are broken when drowning, you die after one stretch.

Could homebrew a Talent / Specialty for swimming ability and bonuses if you don't want to assume everyone can swim.
