Official Errata Rules Book

Wed 20 Sep 2023, 11:40

Hello! Despite our best efforts, a handful of minor errors have been found in the Rules book of the Dragonbane core set. The PDFs are updated and are now available via DrivethruRPG for anyone who backed the Kickstarter or purchased the game in the Free League webshop. Beyond fixing a few cosmetic typos, the following adjustments have been made:
  • Page 42: Clarifies that the action and movement must both be performed on the character’s turn.
  • Page 43: Clarifies that a monster that gets a free attack performs a monster attack.
  • Page 43: Clarifies that involuntary movement never triggers a free attack.
  • Page 43: Clarifies that sneak attacks cannot be performed during active combat.
  • Page 57: Clarifies that spell ranks have no mechanical effects.
  • Page 58: WP can be drawn from the body also with one WP left.
  • Page 62: Clarifies that the PROTECTOR spell can be cast on the mage themselves.
  • Page 63: Removes the sphere effect from the BANISH spell.
  • Page 64–65: The TREAT WOUND, HEAL WOUND, and RESTORATION spells can be cast on the mage themselves.
  • Page 88: The range of the giant’s #6 attack is changed to 2 meters.
  • Page 90: The goblin scout has no damage bonus.
  • Page 92: The combat behavior of harpies is clarified.

Page 43: Clarifies that a monster that gets a free attack performs a monster attack

So... does this this attack require an attack roll or do monster attacks hit automatically on these free attacks?

Monster attacks always hit automatically. But remember, you get an EVADE roll to avoid triggering the free attack.

That's right. If memory serves, that evade (in this case) is not an action

On the Harpys' behaviour, is it really intended that a separate monster attack is generated for each harpy in the flock? That is what the revised wording seems to say since each only ises one Harpy's action despite being performed by several. This means that the more harpies there are the more each individual harpy can do in a single round. Given they are only supposed to attack in numbers this seems like it would be quickly overwhelming. Has anyone played out an encounter this way, and if so how did it go?

The way i read it is that each attack, narratively the harpies performs each attack as a team, but mechanically it is still one monster attack per turn. It's more they gain 1 ferocity per harpy in the group.

Let's say there are three harpies and three players. A harpy get's to go first, then the players, then the two remaining harpies. The harpy performs the Coordinated attack, in which "The harpies flock together and attack the player character who wears the most metal". Once that attack is perofrmed, it's the players turn.

So it's not that harpies get's to do more attacks per turn based on their numbers.
Beware the fey!

As the goblin scout now has no Agl damage bonus, shouldn’t it also have only 10 movement like the goblin warrior as it doesn’t have high Agl (so looses the +2 movement as well as damage bonus)?
