Official rule for damage exceeding strength score

Hello, this answer may be obvious but I wanted to be sure. If you take damage in excess of your strength stat in a single hit do you just go to zero and follow the standard rules for being broken by damage (ex: character with strength of 2 takes a damage 3 hit). That is how I read it but the book has no examples of this. Being attacked while broken has specific rules but this one circumstance isn’t officially addressed. Thank you.
