We've been playing for quite a while and the combat PCs are fairly potent. Does anyone have guidelines to make monsters a little more impressive?

Adding strength so it can take more damage and of course add init cards. Also remember to play them smart, they have been a monster for a while so they should know how to be a monster after all and choose fitting monster attacks, roll only if it doesn't matter.

Add Strength, give it two initiative cards, add 1 or 2 to the attack dice and when it is very hurt, make up an attack that automatically deals a crit.

What about if you want to add some more powerful NPC characters? For example is it possible that NPC has 2 cards during combat?

NPCs follow the same rules as the PCs so they can have talents There are plenty of talents that gives you free actions and free movements and such, But when it comes to init cards, no, each NPC or group of NPCs can only have one init card.

..but you can have them draw more cards and keep those that suit them best (Lightning Quick). And if you want to raise the NPC threat level, let them use Professional Talents. Sounds harmless, but this can really make a difference, esp. with combat-oriented Talents (the GM book does not warn about this for nothing).

But if you're fighting groups of enemies, definitely give them more then one Initiative card. If you bundle the whole group of enemies into one Initiative slot, odds are that they draw lower than at least two or three PCs (escpecially with Lightning Fast) and then the group may already be dead before any of them get to act.
