I think they should add an alternative to the profession ability for the classes, to allow more personality and difference between two characters of the same profession.

Mariner - Sea Legs ability seems situational, I wonder if Mariner could have a second minor ability that could have an use when not in water.

Advancement Rolls - Could we have an example in how the roll works?

Page 31, Experience. Three different advancement systems is two too many for a game intended to be relatively simple. In game checks, plus post game questions, and session count for Heroic Abilities out to be collapsed into one unified system of advancement.

Choosing your Kin and Profession before rolling for Attributes seems backwards, particularly for Mages who want more than one respectable Attribute (INT and WIL). You can swap two Attributes to get high STR for a warrior character or AGL for a Thief, but a Mage needs to roll high INT or WIL and then swap for the other. WIL definitely helps everyone, but the Mage is more dependent than others on having WP to fuel class features, since the Iron/Magic interaction limits a back-up Fighter/Mage type character. Alternatively, having a "standard array" available as a variant for those who don't want to roll for stats could address this.

It looks like Charisma does almost nothing, just determining the Base Chance and Starting Skill Level for Persuade. It's probably going to be the dump stat whenever possible (which in this context would be swapping Charisma with anything lower than it), with the exception of having a single character with reasonable Charisma and Persuade to do all the talking. But calling CHA the Key Attribute for Bard and Merchant is misleading, since Bard doesn't need CHA at all and Merchant would only use it for a single function.

Intelligence is in a similar boat, since it really just influences Base Chances and Starting Skill Levels, but it has more skills attached to it, which helps.

I think that in general, the Attributes would benefit from having more granularity between scores. A STR of 13 and 14 is exactly the same. A 15 is only different because carrying capacity is increased by one. Then 16 is a big jump in Base Chance and Starting Skills, and 17 is a massive jump in the Damage Bonus, and 18 does literally nothing because carrying capacity rounds up, so that increase came at 17.

Gear Table:

Result 5-6
This result mentions a knapsack. While there is a backpack in the Gear chapter, there is no knapsack.

Result 3-4
This result gifts a field Kitchen even though the profession does not have Bushcraft as a starting skill option.

Purely a suggestion:
In the Gear Tables, please list the inventory slots each item may take up. It saves time hunting them down in the gear section.

The Warrior occupation from the QS appears to have been renamed to Fighter (p17). However, all the descriptive text still uses the term “warrior.”

BETA_221129 - Chapter 2 - Your Player Character
P9, 1st paragraph: Specify PC abbreviation at start, and use it throughout the document?
P9, 1st paragraph: Grammar error: replace "not try" with "try not"
P10, Adaptive Sidebar: Replace: "against" with "using"
P10, Names Sidebar: Unless there is a table for surname, than specifying first name is irrelevant
P10, Halfling Section: Replace: "humanoid creatures" with "humanoids", Creatures could have negative connotations
P10, Halfling Section: Reword: "That is why..." sentence with "From time to time, this desire can lead them to leave the safety of their homes in search of grand adventures."
P10, Halfling Section: Reword: "quickly" with "quick at"
P11, Dwarf Section: Grammar error: "metal as well as" should have a comma after metal
P11, Dwarf Section: Reword "feared" as it implies the dwarf warriors are fearful rather than others being fearful of them - "fierce" might make more sense
P12, Inner Peace Sidebar: Grammar error: "As an elf" should have a comma after elf
P12, Inner Peace Sidebar: Replace: "You then heal" with "You heal"
P12, Inner Peace Sidebar: Remove: "extra" from "a D6 extra WP"
P12, Mallard Section: Reword: "They have a knack for trade" sentence with "They have a knack for trade, and their agitated quacking is often an integral part of the soundscape around marketplaces and trade caravans"
P13, Wolfkin Section: Grammar error: "mercenaries or mystics" should have comma after mercenaries
P14, Profession Section: Replace: "what gear you start out with." with "your starting gear."
P16, Music Sidebar: Spacing variation in Music sidebar: Possibly fix by rewording "until your turn" with "until the start of your turn"
P17, Veteran Sidebar: Remove last sentence of Veteran sidebar: Not necessary - if needed, perhaps use brackets in the sentence before, such as replacing "drawing a new one." with "drawing a new one (see Rounds & Initiative in Chapter 4)."
P18, Hunter Section: 1st sentence doesn't make sense
P19, Knight Section: Formatting error: Should move image down so title isn't obscured - should move image to bottom right, Ability sidebar to top right, Gear to middle left, and nicknames to bottom left. Rough estimate would place the spear tip in the first paragraph text
P20, Magic Sidebar: Reword: "which then becomes one of your trained skills" implies that it is an additional/free trained skill rather than one that is chosen at character creation
P20, Magic Sidebar: Remove: "to start out with"
P23, Scholar Section: Grammar error: "expertise such as" should have comma after expertise
P24, Thief Section: "theft victims" doesn't sound right, should this be "their victims"?

I Disagree.
The in game checks and post-game questions are two funnels into the same system. One funnel is expectable and even, and one is a bit more dramatic that shows your character learning from particular mistakes and great achievements, both reward and help to promote an active player-character-world relationship. The second system, Heroic Abilities, is also needed, because players expect to gain at least some completely new abilities from going on many adventures (that isn't new spells stolen from the grimoires of defeated mages). Heroic Abilities offer this without tempting players to save up experience points to buy bigger abilities and neglecting skills. The Heroic Abilities system offers choice, without tempting the "let's try to break this game by building the most over-powered character possible"-folks too much; it also makes larger progression even amongst different player characters.

I think it's a very good thing to keep these systems separate, as it evens out min-maxing, and promotes role playing in a way that begets more role playing rather than solely stats. The first system makes sure there's always some progress while the second supplies the sweet "level up"-kick.

“ All profession abilities will be removed and changed into heroic abilities. Instead of getting a designated professional ability, you will get to choose one heroic ability freely at the start of the game”

Is that really the way to go? Or am I missing something? What is the purpose of choosing a profession if they don’t have specific abilities?
