Dragonbane BETA Rulebook Feedback - Chapter 8 Adventures

Wed 30 Nov 2022, 11:47

Hi!

Please use this thread to post feedback and report any typos or errors in chapter 8 of the BETA PDF of the Rulebook Dragonbane. Guidelines to remember:
  • Before reporting an error, please check and see if it already has been reported, and if so, don't report it again.
  • If you feedbacked on something in the Quickstart but it's not changed in the BETA, it's not because we missed it - it's because we made a different assessment. (Typos are a different thing.)
  • Please report your feedback no later than January 31.
Thank you!

The character sheet at the end of the book lists the 'Survival (int) Skill' but the rulebook uses 'Bushcraft (int)' p35. Probably easier to modify the character sheet to Bushcraft. ;-)

Page 103, Cooking: "roll against Virulence 10."

Does that mean "make an open opposed roll between Virulence 10 and your CON."? Else I do not understand how to make the roll.

Yes it's exactly what you do (p. 53 DISEASE)

Villagers are armed with Cudgel's but no such weapons exist in the weapon table.

That should be 'Blunt Object'

Yes this was my understanding from the quickstart (still reading the beta).

Can you add more guidance on handing out rewards such as gold and magic items?

Also, in the card set, there are 29 backs, but only 28 fronts
The actual treasure card front is missing.

I feel the idea that every adventure ends in a boss fight, and that every quest boils down to someone paying you to get a thing, is too reductive. If this is someone's introduction to refereeing it's going to give them a very narrow understanding of the possibilities.

An introductory or basic game can (and probably should) be rules-light, but it needs to be all the stronger in its guidance for referees and players.

I think you may need some information on some of the NPCs who are part of the process to create the overall adventure
I agree there needs to be more variety besides the big boss fight for an ending.
I rolled up one mission where the players have to take on a troll and its cult worshippers (why pray to a troll as a god is anyone guess), then take on a wizard for big bad fight.
to me right now at beginning levels/ new to the game, fighting a troll is very tough.

I guess I am looking for a sense of balance between players and the challenges

putting traps and such in as part of the adventure is interesting.
again, as a GM, a sense of how difficult to make it is needed in the GM part of the book.

a few examples of adventures rolled up may help guide through the thought process from random dice rolls to a functioning adventure for a new GM
