[HOUSE RULE] Twitchy Androids

Thu 10 Nov 2022, 23:27

Some models of androids are known to be "twitchy." Perhaps their coding is not perfect, their positronic pathways aren't conducting properly, or maybe even the Three Laws have not been embedded correctly ... maybe even deliberately.

These androids represent this by using Stress Dice as "Twitchy Dice." A mildly defective android will use 1 die, while a truly dangerous android will use 3. These dice apply to all Skill and Ability rolls, and in that respect behave similarly to Stress in humans: a 6 is a success, but a 1 (Facehugger) requires a roll on the "Twitchy Model" Performance table.

A Comtech test at -2, taking one turn, can lower the android's Twitchy dice by one, but only by one. And of course the android must consent or be helpless. If not helpless when facing this prospect, the twitchy android must roll its Twitchy Dice (only those dice), and a 1 (Facehugger) result means the android refuses the modification and reacts as if it had rolled a 6 (before adding its Twitchy rating) on the table below.

In any event, the modification only lasts for 1d3 shifts.

"Twitchy Model" Performance

1-6 You state your preference for the term you prefer to "robot," but you're fine.
7 You say something incredibly weird, inappropriate, or offensive and don't even realize it. The Stress of any human who witnesses this goes up by 1.
8 You are briefly, visibly, enraged, and you break an important nearby piece of equipment before your rage passes, and you have no memory of this. You will likely even apologize, perhaps for your "clumsiness." Any human who witnesses this must make an immediate Panic Roll, and then their Stress increases by one.
9 You attack any nearby human whom you know or suspect to be opposed to your agenda. You stop only when that person is broken, or you are. Any human witnessing this gains one Stress, and must make an immediate Panic Roll.
