Pushing rolls seems subject to some interpretation, so I'm looking to clear it up, possibly with some rules I missed somewhere.
In the below example, the Player has 6 base dice, and 1 stress.
She rolls a skill roll. The STRESS die comes up a 6 (success), but she is not satisfied with 1 success, so she pushes the skill roll, adding 1 stress for a total of 2. Which of these is correct for the PUSHED roll:
(1) She rolls 6 base dice plus 2 stress dice, and what she rolls is what she gets. (I.e., the first roll is completely "overwritten" by the push roll.)
(2) She rolls 6 base dice plus 2 stress dice, and she can choose to use the result of the original roll or the push roll.
(3) She sets the stress success aside, and rolls 6 base dice plus the 1 (remaining) stress die, adding whatever successes she rolls to the original 1 success (and of course risking Panic).
(4) She sets one of her BASE dice aside as a success, and rolls 5 base dice plus 2 stress dice, adding whatever successes she rolls to the original 1 success (and of course risking Panic).
The way we've been doing it is (4), but as I said, the rules are pretty vague. I was on the fence between (3) and (4), and settled on (4) just because I'm a MU/TH/UR ...
How do y'all do it? Can you point me to any clarifying rules?
