I played the game once with my son, and enjoyed it, I'm planning on introducing it to my gaming group in a couple weeks, but we had one question that we couldn't figure out an answer to:
If I hack a machine, how long does it stay hacked? for the day, the week, or the whole game? We couldn't figure out an answer to that question.

The machine stays hacked until it reaches firmware reset.
Than happens when you get twice in a row the # symbol in the bottom of the School card

That moment is called FIRMWARE UPGRADES, page 12 of the manual:
"All HACKED Machines are RESET and no longer count as HACKED"
