What is the range of the R-311 soviet radio?

Sat 10 Sep 2022, 03:51

It's the only one with no range list, so it must be an errata. I couldn't find it anywhere though. Anyone?

It's a HF and AM radio, so the range is mostly limited only by the antenna you connect it to and the quality of the incoming signal. Practically speaking, it varies enormously with the weather and even the season.

(This is fundamentally true of most radios of course. Range is hugely dependent on the operator, antenna, and where they choose to put it.)

Like the guy above said there are so many variables that impact radio strength. One the the thing to remember it is not like a cell phone at all, your not guaranteed that it will work.

Two, is the skill of the operator. Guys who know where to set up the antenna, how to set it up, and maintain their equipment. Giving the right operator an hour to set up can change the game.

Three, the terrain and wearher will impact the signal.
Four, how much juice your pumping through will impact performance.
Five, is the radio network available to use. Basic man portable radio with no relay in a urban environment, your looking at about 100-300 meters. That's if your really not caring about how much of the battery gets used. Add channel Hopping and encryption, it eats more and more of the battery.
