Judging by who we are introduced to in episode 3 it looks like we might see the destruction of Númenor and the founding of Arnor and Gondor later on.

I was looking at the cast. I saw the character Miriel leader of the Numenorians. in the lore, it gives a good clue of the moment (year 3255). Elendil and isildur are also present. Will Sauron be taken prisoner in numenor. He would become melkor the wizard and the court adviser. Gondor and Arnor were founded by Elendil and Isildur in 3320. Numenor is drowned by the gods. I think you are right baldrick0712.

I have read that we should see CIRDAN from the Grey Havens in saison 2. I can wait to see if they will bring back GLORFINDEL in middle earth. The stranger can't be him since he's not an elf. Or maybe he is ...

I wonder if I'm the only one who saw the subject line and thought "is this going to be about how and why Isildur, hurriedly packing to leave Númenor before it sank, thought 'you know what I should somehow get onto my ship so later I can roll it hundreds of miles inland later and park it on a hill-top -- that giant black stone that must weigh a few tons, Erech, wasn't that its name?'" Because I have always found that one of the most baffling things in all of the legendarium.

Ha! I’ve never really thought of that but you are right.

I had no idea what this thread was about, and I had pretty much just watched the show. The “ship vs stone” thing certainly didn’t jump out at me as one of the more interesting/creative/profound aspects of the show. Rather forgettable, really.

It had more impact on me because, in a way, it was how the show could show us the swan-ships of Alqualondë and even a hint of what happened there.

If you read about the First Kinslaying at Alqualondë and then watch that scene, it may be less forgettable. I think that story is something Amazon doesn't have the rights to tell, but they managed to sneak in a metaphorical version of it anyway. At very least, it shows us "Even Elves can be jerks to one another".

You are right HunterGreen. I see the reference with Alqualonde, the 2 executive producers of Rings of Power are really into the Tolkien Lore (I mean for some stuff). I know they have changed lots of things. One of the reason is to give female characters more impact (see Galadriel character in Rings of Power or Arwen in the Peter Jackson films). We'll see where this is going in a few weeks ...

One other reference to this story (Alqualonde story) will be in this week episode ... character ADAR ... every thing is good at first but then ... don't want spoiling anything so you'll see ...

What was a bit disappointing was when they showed the Noldor sailing from the Undying Lands to Middle-earth, the map did not include Beleriand where they actually landed. We instead see Lindon as it appears after the War of Wrath.
